Chiefs Make Late Roster Move

Just a day before facing the Jacksonville Jaguars at Arrowhead Stadium, the Chiefs made a move at the bottom of their roster.

They signed WR Verran Tucker off their practice squad. To make room for him they released WR Jeremy Horne.

Tucker is 6-1, 204 pounds out of Los Angeles. He attended El Camino Junior College and the University of California where he caught 50 passes for 815 yards and four TDs. He began his NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys as a rookie free agent, but was released before the start of training camp. He signed with the Chiefs on July 31st. During the pre-season, he caught seven passes for 45 yards.

Horne played in three of the five games this season and spent most of his time working on special teams, where he was credited with one tackle.

I don’t know about anyone else, but this is a bit of a surprise to me. I was under the impression that Horne was a speed guy who just needed a bit of work and Tucker wasn’t all that impressive.

Bob, any thoughts as to why they choose one over the other?

And, by “released” does that mean to the practice squad or from the team entirely?

I may have answered my own questions. I forgot about the reports that Horne had a boot on his leg, which would completely explain this move.

From arrowheadPride: “Kent Babb of the KC Star reported earlier this week that Horne had an inflatable boot on his leg in the locker room this week. His release explains why he wasn’t on the injury report.)”

Think Horne could be signed to practice squad but if any other team likes him, he is gone. That happened to Lawrence last year but no one wanted him, so there he sits on the practice squad.

Guess was not an answer to Haley, to bad, thought his speed would/could get him on the field. Maybe we can upgrade WR next year. Current ones are not show stoppers and doubt Tucker adds a whole lot.

Almost forgot todays game, hope the Chiefs are very sharp on defense. Pre Haley history, the Chiefs were not very good when facing backup QBs. If offence could repeat what they did last week would be nice. If Haley can keep out of it, let the darned special team loose, no more trick plays, maybe a td return insted.
