Chiefs Grab Victory No. 7 in Seattle

From Qwest Field, Seattle

The Chiefs put together their best overall performance of the season and pushed their AFC West leading record to 7-4 with a 42-24 victory over the Seahawks on Sunday.

Offensively, the Chiefs were almost unstoppable, rolling up 503 yards as RB Jamaal Charles ran for 173 yards to go over 1,000 yards for the season. WR Dwayne Bowe caught three touchdown passes and 13 balls in all for 170 yards. Matt Cassel threw for four TD passes. They held the ball for 41 minutes.

Playing without their best player in CB Brandon Flowers, the Chiefs defense was sensational, taking the ball away three times and allowing only two offensive touchdowns in the game. Interceptions by FS Kendrick Lewis and CB Travis Daniels were big, as was a QB sack by LB Derrick Johnson that forced a fumble that was recovered by DE Tamba Hali.

Only the special teams was lacking, as they allowed a blocked field goal and a blocked punt that went for a Seattle touchdown. But the kicking unit took Seattle returner Leon Washington out of the game as he was unable to break off any big returns on kickoffs or punts.

As always, we have complete coverage. Enjoy.

What happened there at the end? I don’t remember seeing a game where they went to the knee so quickly. Why didn’t the Seahawks go for points at the end? Seems odd aside from saving your players from injury.

ummm being down that far and as banged up as their offensive line is would explain it.

Big, big road win! We had to win this one if we’re seriously going to contend for the division title.

Cassel/Bowe/Charles are on fire right now. If they can keep this up and get some help from the defense we can win the West.

Great game. We got the pressure I felt we needed to win and we ran the ball well. Cassel another strong game. The guy is coming into his own.

Solid win. Now every game is a must win, that is the problem when the Chiefs win, we want more. Sort of figure there can be one more loss this year and still make the playoffs with some help from other teams.

Without a doubt the best performance by Cassel that I have seen in a chiefs uniform. He was decisive and accurate. The third down conversion to Bowe that Bob mentions in his article and the long touchdown pass to Bowe were great plays where he escaped tremendous pressure coming from the left side. Maybe we DO have something here. To beat Denver, let alone San Diego, not only do we need the balanced offense displayed yesterday, but we definitely need more pressure on the QB.
