Chiefs Get Sacked By Jets, 37-10

From MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey

The Chiefs miserable 2011 season came to end on Sunday here in the swamps of Jersey.

Some would argue that it was over many weeks ago, while others can pull out math that says Todd Haley and his team have not yet been eliminated from dreaming about the playoffs.

Neither matters. What slim chances they had were snuffed by the New York Jets 37-10 on a sunny afternoon in front of a full house of Jets fans.

It was a dramatic show of inept offensive football in the first half for the Chiefs, who totaled just 4 offensive yards in 30 minutes of play. They managed a field goal for three quarters and then found the end zone for a late score.

New York took advantage of Chiefs mistakes, a turnover, poor punt coverage and other helpful moments to throw five touchdowns on the board. QB Mark Sanchez had two of those. In fact, Sanchez became the first quarterback in Jets history to run for two touchdowns and throw two touchdowns in the same game.

Here’s what we are saying:

This is a “classic” game you would show to your high school football team on what “not to do” in a real game. The Succup kickoff that went 2 1/2 feet was a “real classic moment”.

I hope that the Chiefs’ management has seen enough of Todd Haley and Tyler Palko now. Time to find out what they have in Stanzi and other young players on the roster. The time is now to start looking for a new head coach and a QB capable of winning games. Crennel has done a great job with the defense given the injuries and lack of talent on the line.

I’m not sure I’d go as far as to plan the next coach, but I’m all for trying out Stanzi and the other players. At this point we’re out of the playoffs for all intents and purposes so let’s see what we got in the deck and what we need in the draft/FA.

  • December 11, 2011  - Rick says:

Yeah, I wouldn’t fire Haley, but I would cut Palko and get someone in here to back up Stanzi.

Might as well see what the kid can do.

  • December 11, 2011  - James says:

Haley should be fired now but cheap ass Hunt won’t allow it.

  • December 11, 2011  - cychief24 says:

Man, just how bad and unprepared must Stanzi be to not have come in today?!?

Could anyone believe what a joke of a play the safety was? Weigmann was just shoved back into Battle like a rag doll and then fell into the fetal position. Hudson sat on the bench all day. Unbelievable!

I predict Haley will be fired if not Monday, sometime soon. Then Pioli will bring in the kid he originally wanted, Josh McDaniels.

  • December 11, 2011  - johnfromfairfax says:

I hope to hell that’s not the case. I don’t think McDaniels would be an improvement. Pioli should start with himself if he’s going to fire anyone.

Bob, Are you going to do any more Ask Bob sessions? I think we all have some questions for you!

Also what did you think of the drive that KC got 5 penalties for 81 yards, including a penalty on Haley? It looked to me like the refs were trying to show Haley who was boss on that drive, I know it wouldn’t have changed the outcome but it was still pretty shocking, cause I haven’t seen that many penalty yards on one drive in the NFL before?

  • December 11, 2011  - Kenny says:

Maybe those were all penalties, but the refs would really need to be consistent. Not all of a sudden start calling penalties on things that were happening all game. I think the inconsistency is what Haley was probably so furious about. Especially on the pass interference penalty on the 4, when the jets players was the one who initiated contact when he couldn’t get to the ball.

  • December 11, 2011  - cychief24 says:

Just to be clear. I don’t really want McDaniels here, I just think that’s what Pioli wants.

My first choice would be Cowher with his choice of a Player Personnel guy to help him.
If Pioli has to stay then Fisher. He makes the most of the talent he’s given and is mentally stable.

  • December 12, 2011  - johnfromfairfax says:

That assumes Pioli is gone as well because I don’t think either guy would come in and have him dictate the personnel they would have. Certainly not after this year’s debacle. If that’s the case both of those individuals would be good candidates although I don’t think anybody can come in and be an immediate savior. Given the injuries this year anybody coming in will inherit a better team than what Haley had to work with this season. I don’t think the organization should be jettisoned at this point to start the cycle over. However, I do think if Haley goes Pioli should be the one the door hits in the a** on the way out behind him. Frame it any way you like but this is not simply just a failure of the head coach this year.

What if this was Haley’s plan to save his job all along?

If Haley can beat the GB Packers next sunday, he could probably be the HC next year, when the injured are cured and a new HOF bound draft has taken place. How does he get there?

Make the game a “trap” game, pray GB overlook a team whose QB had a 6.2 QB rating during the first half.

How to get there….. look totally incompetant (easy he is), limit your offensive opportunities, limit what your defense does. Run McCluster up the middle on running plays. Hope Palko cannot hit open receivers, check that off, hope Bowe has a brain freeze, check that off. Pray Special team cannot execute an on-sides kick or Succop does one of his patented up/down games.

Then the trap is set for GB. win and you have a job next year. Isn’t that what Indy is doing, cannot seem to beat anyone, less blowowts than Chiefs but keep being just bad enough for the first pick.

  • December 12, 2011  - el cid says:

PS almost forgot, after 2 years, take Baldwin, Breaston, and Bowe out of the game and make Urban the featured receiver, wow that was brilliant. I can see it all now, the light at the end of the tunnel.

I hate it when I’m always right. Clark/Pioli fired Haley just now. 10 am.
    AFC West Champs to fired.
    Pioli is inept…

  • December 12, 2011  - Petey says:

So much for the ‘Steeler Way’. I don’t know if firing Haley was the right decision, but it certainly sets us back….again. If we bring in Josh McDaniels, I will seriously think about not rooting for a football team for the next couple of years (I’ll take it off just like the Chiefs will be).

  • December 12, 2011  - Niblick says:

I just saw where ESPN reported they were working with Haley on an exit statement yesterday afternoon or earlier. I felt he knew he has been gone for some time. I could be totally wrong, but I don’t think he will bring in McDaniels. I just heard Crennell will be the interim coach. I just hope they go for an experienced guy. Jeff Fisher seems to be the hot name. He might go to Dallas if Garrett get fired. Pioli should act quickly if he wants Fisher.

  • December 12, 2011  - bhive01 says:

I didn’t want to see Haley go, but I’d take Fisher. McDaniels I wouldn’t mind as O-coordinator, but I think a lot of people have a dislike for him and he’s not really done anything in StL this year so…

  • December 12, 2011  - KC_Guy says:

I just wonder if any of the big names would even want to deal with Egoli and try to clean up the mess he created in this place.

  • December 12, 2011  - johnfromfairfax says:

Hey, Herm’s available and he’ll draw the welcome signs and probably supply his own pens. If not Herm, maybe one of the other fired ESPN guys. What a cluster. Now PUoli will distance himself from his original hire and we can all conjecture how Haley sabotaged the team single handedly. Jeff Fisher is a good coach but I’m with KC Guy. I’m not sure he or any other good coach would want any part of PU and Frugal Junior. the plot thickens.
