From Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis
11:37 a.m. CST – Colts just announced that DaJuan Morgan was released to make room on the active roster for practice squad running back Javarris James, who was signed just this wee.
11:35 a.m. CDT – Until after the game, enjoy the Chiefs and Colts.
11:34 a.m. CDT – As the Chiefs finishd up their pre-game work, they go to run goal line plays. G Jon Asamoah lined up at FB in the alignment.
11:29 a.m. CDT – Might have to scratch early note on DaJuan Morgan. As the Colts went through their pre-game, Morgan was not on the field. When the Indy No. 1 defense lined up, it was Antoine Bethea and Aaron Francisco playing safety. When they went to the second group, it was Mie Newton and Brandon King. No. 34 – Morgan – has not been visible on the field.
11:06 a.m. CDT – With DaJuan Morgan in the starting lineup, expect the Chiefs offense to make an attempt to take advantage of his aggressiveness. Morgan’s failings with the Chiefs over three years had more to do with his being caught out of position because he loves to react and hit. That frequently got him out of alignment in the defense. If he hasn’t cured himself of that, expect the Chiefs to work on getting him to bite.
11:04 a.m. CDT – Four players working on punt and kickoff returns for the Chiefs – Dexter McCluster, Javier Arenas, Terrance Copper and Jackie Battle. Working on returns for the Colts are Jerraud Powers, Kenny Moore and Justin Tryon.
11:00 a.m. CDT – Todd Haley makes his fist appearance on the field as he stands with Clark Hunt, Lamar Hunt Jr. and Daniel Hunt in the end zone.
10:53 a.m. CDT – Veteran Colts K Adam Vinatieri still has the leg. He nailed one from 57 yards away kicking towards the south goal posts. He also hit one from 54 yards away going in that direction.
10:45 a.m. CDT – Gm Scott Pioli and Colts assistant Tom Moore enjoying a long conversation at midfield. They are joined by the Colts leadership duo of Bill Polian and his son Chris.
10:43 a.m. CDT – The only Colts starter out of the game today is SS Bob Sanders (biceps injury). Stepping into the starting lineup will be former Chiefs third-round pick DaJuan Morgan. The Indy offense is also without two contributors in WR Anthony Gonzalez and RB Donald Brown.
10:39 a.m. CDT – No surprises among the Chiefs inactive players. LB Charlie Anderson will be active today for the first time with the Chiefs. They have only five active defensive linemen today, pretty good evidence that they play to be in their nickel defense most of the time, either a 2-4-5 or a 2-3-6 alignment.
10:36 a.m. CDT – Inactive players for the Colts today are WR Anthony Gonzalez, S Bob Sanders, DB Jacob Lacey, RB Donald Brown, LB Kavell Conner, G Jacques McClendon, G Jaimie Thomas and DE Jerry Hughes.
10:35 a.m. CDT – Inactive players for the Chiefs today are WR Jeremy Horne, CB Jackie Bates, FB Mike Cox, S Reshard Langford, LB Justin Cole, OT Ryan O’Callaghan, DE Tyson Jackson and DT Anthony Toribio.
10:30 a.m. CDT – It looks like DE Tyson Jackson will be one of the inactive players today. He’s on the field now and is not dressed as if he’s ready for pre-game. Jackson has missed the last two games because of a sprained left MCL. He returned to practice work last week.
10:28 a.m. CDT – offensive coordinator Charlie Weis and Colts assistant Tom Moore enjoying a laugh at the 40-yard line. Now there is some offensive history from the NFL of the last decade, Weis with the Patriots and Moore as the guy who trained Peyton Manning.
10:25 a.m. CDT – former K-State head coach Ron Prince, now the assistant offensive line coach of the Colts, standing in the end zone in conversation with Chiefs LB Charlie Anderson.
10: 22 a.m. CDT – OLB Tamba Hali is working up quite a sweat as he works with Master Joe Kim, the taekwondo expert who has worked with the team all year on hand fighting.
10:20 a.m. CDT – Assistant offensive line coach Pat Perles on the field talking with Colts assistant Tom Moore. When Perles was aa kid, it was Moore who gave him and Todd Haley rides to Three Rivers Stadium when the Steelers had a home game. Both Haley and Perles worked in the locker room and on the sidelines.
10:16 a.m. CDT – Former teammates QB Matt Cassel and Indy K Adam Vinatieri talking about their Patriots days at mid-field.
10:14 a.m. CDT – TE Tony Moeaki and Colts LB Pat Angerer, a couple of Iowa rookies, having a chat at the 45-yard line.
10:11 a.m. CDT – OLB Mike Vrabel now on the field, catching a few passes. He also spent time talking with Colts C Jeff Saturday and Indy assistant coach Tom Moore.
10:09 a.m. CDT – Peyton Manning and Clark Hunt conversing in the end zone.
10:06 a.m. CDT – QB Peyton Manning is out early, as he usually is, and doing some early throwing. He also took a moment to cha with Chiefs assistant secondary coach Otis Smith, who is out early doing some extra work with CB Javier Arenas. Manning and Smith battled many times when Smith was playing for the Patriots.
10:04 a.m. CDT – Chiefs quarterbacks and receivers are going through their pre-pre-game workout. All the receivers are involved except Jeremy Horne. All the tight ends are involved save Leonard Pope. Not working with the receivers today is OLB Mike Vrabel, maybe an indication they don’t have the Vrabel pass play on the goal line in for this game.
10:03 a.m. CDT – A few players are on the field for some early workouts. It appears that four of the team’s eight inactive players today will be FB Mike Cox, WR Jeremy Horne, CB Jackie Bates and LB Justin Cole. They are rolling through a workout with strength and conditioning coach Mike Clark.
10:01 a.m. CDT – One of the inactives today will be S Reshard Langford. He was declared out on Saturday by the Chiefs and in fact did not make the trip to Indy. He’s been trying to get over an ankle injury.
10:00 a.m. CDT – Good morning from Indy. It’s a beautiful Sunday morning here, with hazy sunshine and warm temperatures. It’s expected to reach the mid 80s today. The retractable roof remains closed at this time.
