Reinforcements are on the way for the Chiefs after their first day of training camp. Only problem is, the 10 free agents will not be able to get on the field until Thursday.

Signings were announced with:

  • UFA – RB Jackie Battle, WR Steve Breaston, WR Terrance Copper, CB Travis Daniels, S Jon McGraw, OT Ryan O’Callaghan, TE Leonard Pope and C Casey Wiegmann. Battle, O’Callaghan and Pope are new additions to the list.
  • RFA – FB Mike Cox signed his tender offer.
  • ERFA – S Reshard Langford signed his tender offer.

Except for Breaston, who cares. If this was a normal year many would have been training camp fodder this late in their non-existant careers.

As I understand it the 4th of Aug is the next deadline, could be really wrong, anyone???

pathetic… hope to see franklin, barnett, mcclain,and/or an OT or this is a bust free agent class. we lack a NT, rely on young un proven DE’s and LB’s, albert is an RT, therefore our LT is not to be mentioned in pro talk, and we hope that Thomas Jones can handle the entire season as a number 2. We have some serious moves to make to be considered a true contender. It’s up to Scott Pioli and coaches to show the confidence in their regime, and truly invest in players to help win now and in the future. lets see some free agents that will have a true starting or playing role on this team before we get excited.

Got to believe the Chiefs are operating on the “top secret” level. Surely, Pioli and crew will not try to go into the season with no proven NTs. As for RT, LT, LB, or others,I do not hold out a lot of hope unless Pioli is operating his “run’em in, run’em out” system like the last two years at WR. Still have hopes there is a RB that is not a third stringer but is available.

I completely “agree” with El Cid from above. McGraw, Battle, and Cox are all 3 “below average” players. And I love Wiegmann, but his age is now working against him. And the signing of a 35 year old Kelly Gregg is probably a sign of the Chiefs unwillingness to spend big money on anyone of importance. After losing both Shaun Smith and Ron Edwards on the defensive line, what do they do???? They go out and sign a 35 year old that has been cut. CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP. I’M SORRY BUT ITS THE TRUTH.
