Former Notre Dame and Denver Broncos safety Kyle McCarthy has signed a free agent contract with the Chiefs.
The 6-1, 210-pound McCarthy spent parts of the last two seasons with the Broncos. Signed as an undrafted rookie, he played in eight games in 2010 and then four games during the 2011 season. Overall in Denver, he played in 12 games and had four defensive tackles and three tackles in the kicking game.
A native of Youngstown, Ohio, McCarthy played in 50 games at Notre Dame, starting 26 times. He finished with 240 total tackles and eight interceptions over his career. He also graduated with a degree in finance.
McCarthy has played three games against the Chiefs, picking up two tackles on defense in 2010 in the Broncos big victory in Denver.
