And the Kansas City Chiefs select … Tyson Jackson
Truman Sports Complex
With the third pick in the first-round of the NFL Draft the Chiefs selected DE Tyson Jackson from LSU.
The St. Louis Rams selected OT Jason Smith out of Baylor with the second selection.
No surprises on the first pick, as the Detroit Lions immediately submitted the name of Georgia QB Matt Stafford less than 60 seconds after Commissioner Roger Goodell opened the Draft at Radio City Music Hall in New York.

Unbelievable!
BS!
Not OL like I would have liked to see but I will take it. He is a big guy so we should hopefully not be last in sacks again this year. Now let’s hope Pioli pulls some tricks and the Chiefs end up with another pick today.
JB
wow-what happened to best player available?
He was the readers 3rd choice (6.5 votes) in the previous poll. I figured it would be Curry.
ummmm tyson jackson is like some guy they pulled outta the stands right?
Jackson is a nice player, but you’re telling me NO ONE was willing to trade up to get Sanchez?! You’re telling me Jackson is better than Monroe or Curry or Raji or Crabtree?!
Hopefully this pick works out, but my faith in Pioli just took a MAJOR hit.
he wasnt even considered a top 20 prospective
He was only second-team all-SEC this year. Idea for the 3-4, but this is the number 3 pick in the draft. Curry was the safer pick, but Jackson probably has more upside.
Me & Herm be grinnin’ ear to ear…’searchme’piolee & ‘checkpoint’hailee are proving to be bigger busts than Jackson.
GRADE: F
heh heh heh!
: )
The pick makes since if you look at Pioli’s draft record. A player that can play multiple positions on the line. He can play end in a 3-4 or line up next to Dorsey in a 4-3. I like the pick.
another wow-Al Davis took darius heyward bey. lol had macklin and crabtree as a choice. I love oakland glad they have big Al
If you wanted Curry you should have been supporting Herm to stay. I said 4 months ago, if we made a coaching change we better all be ready for another rough year, because a new regime would mean retooling to a different scheme. If Haley wanted to keep a 4-3, I have no doubt we would have picked Curry. As it is, we have to start over. I have faith Pioli will get us there, but it’s not an instantaneous thing. I guess you didn’t believe the 3,000 or so analysts who said nobody wanted to trade into the top 4 because of the money, eh?
Best I can say is our #3 isn’t an exciting pick.
I really would’ve liked to have gotten what the Browns did for Sanchez. Oh well, our line will look good with Dorsey/Jackson. I hope we find a way to get another pick today.
Another good thing about the pick is that he is from LSU and knows Glen D. so there will be a comfort thing right off the bat.
JB
‘Cause all of us guys are smarter than Pioli. Right Rin Tin Tin?
If Pioli felt this was the best choice for this team…then it probably was. He knows how to put together a football team. And I’m not going to second guess the guys every move. The proof will be when we hit the field in September.
Pick make a lot of sense to me. Look Dumb Asses, just because Kiper. Mcshay, or the Goose doesn’t have him ranked in the top five doesn’t mean sh!t!
MD did you ever see curry play he has 10 times the potential of anyone else in the draft and for them to let him go was a big mistake. I guess fools follow fools. jackson hasnt got that much potential
Well it aint sexy thats for sure.
WHAT THE IS GOING ON WITH THE CHIEFS ? EVERY TIME WE HAVE A BAD YEAR WE TAKE A DEFENSIVE LINEMAN SIM,FREEMAN,DORSEY,TYSON JACKSON? PIOLI & HALI HAVE DONE NOTHING SINCE THEY GOT TO TOWN. YOU CAN ARGUE THAT EVEN THE CASSEL MOVE IS SOMEWHAT SUSPECT CONSIDERING HE ONLY STARTED 1 YEAR. THEY COULD HAVE GOT HIM LATER. I LOVE THE CHIEFS BUT MAN IT’S HARD BEING A CHIEF FAN.THE OFFENSIVE LINE IS NEGLECTED AGAIN & AGAIN !!!!! AND PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT LJ NOT RUNNING HARD BUT HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO RUN BEHIND THE CHIEFS LINE. I WOULD HAVE TAKEN A TACKLE OR CURRY. DON’T BELIEVE THE CHIEFS THEY DON’T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING.THOSE GUYS ARE ARROGANT AND HAVE ACCOMPLISHED NOTHING. THE CHIEFS WILL BE 4-12 IF THEY ARE LUCKY BUT I GUESS THEY WILL SCREW THAT DRAFT UP AND WE WILL HAVE NOTHING TO SHOW FOR ANOTHER BAD SEASON.I FEEL LIKE CHARLIE BROWN ON HALLOWEEN I GOT A ROCK.
And yes…Herms STILL The Man with no coaching job!
Rin: “I’m a pickin on ‘em (‘searchme’piolee & ‘checkpoint’hailee’)!”
Herm: “And I’m a grinnin!”
Rin: “ME TOO!!!”
heh heh heh
I don’t mind this pick at all. You build in the trenches first. Apparently, they felt Monroe wasn’t as good a player FOR US as Jackson will be. This is Pioli’s history. He is going to draft players for what WE want them to do regardless of prognosticators’ evaluations.
This is about the best highlight I could find –

Is there any one else that has a better one?
JB
Everyone needs to relax. Jackson is a solid DE in a 3-4. Hali is a smaller, speed rusher DE that is gonna move to LB. We now have 4 first round picks in the front 7 of our D(Jackson,Hali,Johnson, and Dorsey), time to switch to a 3-4 and coach em up. Rin…please just go away, nobody cares what you say or think.
Rin & Herm: “Tyson Jackson???”
Rin: “My sides hurt Herm!”
Herm: “Mine too!”
Rin & Herm: “heh heh heh heh heh heh heh!!!”
Press Man #1: “‘searchme’, were you stuck at #3? Is that why you didn’t trade down?
searchme: “I’ve NOTHING to say…per the usual. And you didn’t raise your hand before asking me that question – did you!?”
Press Man #1: “Well no I didn’t, but-”
searchme: “You need to make an appointment before you ask another question of me – shy said, I will fail to recognize you. Understood? Next question.”
Press Man #2: “‘checkpoint’, do you have anything to say, any comment to make?”
checkpoint: “Why you- do you have a hall pass?! Let me see your credentials!!!!!”
PR Man BM: “That concludes today’s KC Chiefs draft press conference.”
heh heh heh
It’d be nice if Rin took a cue from Pioli kept things quiet!
Cleveland trades down not once, not twice, but THREE times now. We couldn’t trade down ONCE?!?!?!
Irritating.
Carlm- How many superbowls did your draft picks contribute to in the last 10 years?
Oh, i must have confused you with Pioli. I think I’ll trust his opiion over yours- sorry.
Colby, we were in the top 4- Cleveland wasn’t. No comparison to be made.
No one wanted in the top 5! Pioli can’t manufacture a trade with no one to trade with.
Damn! How long is it going to take for some people to understand that this was a very weak draft, the value is in late first and then, second round!
All things considered, Jackson was a solid pick!
Wow Md your the one telling us. not the other way around. I dont like the pick. Jackson was 2nd sec all team not a first and he only had 4.5 sacks last year. It is my opinion you dont like it tough dont really care and as far as trusting pioli havent seen anything special yet not in free agency and not in his first pick in the draft. also if I could I would love to coach in the NFL. It wont happen anytime soon. but, it is still one of my dreams. I’m not a normal armchair qb. I have done some recruiting and coaching.

“No one wanted in the top 5!”
Hmmmm, then why did the Jets move up to 5? Is pick 5 not the top 5 smart guy? Face it, they got enamored with a player and took need over value. Maybe the trade offer wasn’t there, I just find it hard to believe.
I have no issue with Jackson, but they are going to have to pay A LOT of money for a DE that doesn’t have much pass rushing ability. Why didn’t they sign a Chris Canty or an Igor Olshansky? Two proven 3-4 DEs who stuff the run and would come at half the price? Not sure what the thinking is here. Hopefully Jackson is a beast, but this looks like a poor pick in my opinion.
seems strange that this is third year in a row we take a LSU player in first round. are we gonna change name to the tigers?
Hey, Dumb Guy!
The jets were the only ones to move up, and they got what they wanted at five, NOT 3! Any of you idiots notice the Pats traded completely out of the first round? Sorry, but Pioli realizes that Defense needs to be addressed also, not just Offense.
This isn’t Peterson’s show any more boys! Get used to it.
April 25, 2009 – anonymous says: This isn’t Peterson’s show any more boys! Get used to it. you sure about that anonymous. has a lot of the same feel
I wonder how much leverage Tyson Jackson not being in attendance at the draft had on the Chiefs picking him…
You know how much our front office hates publicity.
Can any of you naysayers, tell me with a straight face, that Peterson could have pulled of the trade that brought Cassel and Vrabel to the team for a second round pick? Hell NO!
Peterson would have had made some stupid ass trade that would have required the Chiefs to hand over it’s entire secondary or some other lame ass deal!
I don’t know why I waste my time trying to educate you F’n idiots!
anonymous says:
“Hey, Dumb Guy!”
Clever. At least I know how to count to five genius.
“Any of you idiots notice the Pats traded completely out of the first round?”
I was the one who wanted the Chiefs to trade down and that’s your argument against me? Of course the Pats traded down as opposed to reaching on a position of need. We should have done that too…..idiot.
“This isn’t Peterson’s show any more boys!”
Thanks for the news flash. Any intelligent points to make now? No wonder you don’t use a name here. I’d be ashamed to attach my name to those posts too!

I don’t either. Most of us have forgot more football than you’ll ever know. You’ve got nothing to teach. Save your pretty little typing fingers for other activities.
Shut up, Stupid!
Until you can make a coherent argument!
It’s easy to scream, Shoulda, woulda, coulda. Name a scenario, other than the one I suggested a few days ago, where the Chiefs could have made a trade!?
anonymous says:
“Name a scenario, other than the one I suggested a few days ago, where the Chiefs could have made a trade!?”
I don’t remember your scenario and I’m not searching for it. It’s probably as moronic as your other points.
At least the Chiefs are doing better than the Raiders! Heyward-Bey over Maclin or Crabtree and this Mitchell kid in round 2? Mel said he’s the 73rd best safety! UGH!
Yeah! That’s about what I thought. You let your $10.00 Mouth, over load your .02 cent ass!
Come on man! Name the scenario where Pioli could have traded back!
Lame!
I’ve already named about 5 different trade back scenarios in the last two days. If you want to search for them then go for it. They’re all still there. If you missed my brilliant ideas the first time that’s too bad. Quit running your mouth. You don’t know the first thing about the draft. My $10.02 ass-mouth combo is still about $15.00 more valuable than your angry little mind.
Enough said. There are some people on here who know when a dumb ass has been exposed.
My sentiments exactly. Couldn’t have said it better myself.
You can’t trade without a willing partner. I’d love to see us trade LJ for Larry Fitzgerald. I know, how about Tamba Hali for the entire Saints draft- worked for Ricky Williams, they’d do it again, right!?! BTW, from someone who saw Heyward-Bey in Maryland all year, HA!! Al Davis for csan NEVER retire! We’d miss him so.
hahahahahaha, well I personally like the pick, Curry wasn’t going to help us this year, just like the 2nd round pick they got for Tony…
THey pulled the trigger to early on Herm, that’s all there is to it.
How about Pioli wasn’t the man in New England and is showed today, Belichick was and still is the mastermind in New England. You would have to be a blind man not to see that
