Afternoon Practice Update 7/25

From River Falls, Wisconsin

Mother Nature put a major crush on the Chiefs afternoon practice on Friday.  A big old thunderstorm rolled across the Minnesota prairie, crossed the St. Croix River and smacked River Falls right upside the head.  Heavy rain, strong winds, hail.

The Chiefs were on the practice field and could see the storm coming.  LG Brian Waters kept pointing to the northwest and the darkening sky.  As a Texas native, he’s seen those kind of power clouds before and when the tornado sirens went off, Waters led the charge inside.  Good thing too, because less than five minutes later visibility was zero as the rain came down in buckets and the wind knocked over anything that wasn’t tied down.

Plus, as the Chiefs got inside out of the storm, power was lost in the Hunt-Knowles Building which serves as their indoor facility, weight room and locker room.  The players and coaches sat around in the dark for about 15 minutes before the lights kicked on and shifted into a walk-thru mode.

Not much to report there.  But here’s what the No. 2 defense looked like:

  • Defensive ends: Turk McBride and Brian Johnston.
  • Defensive tackles: T.J. Jackson and Maurice Murray.
  • Linebackers: Demorrio Williams, Pat Thomas and LeRue Rumph.
  • Cornerbacks: Will Poole and Maurice Leggett.
  • Safeties: Jon  McGraw and DaJuan Morgan.

The No. 2 offensive line looked like this (left to right): Herb Taylor, Tre Stallings, Wade Smith, Anthony Alabi and Barry Richardson.
