AFC Post-Season Picture: Three Weeks Left
One of the six slots in the AFC tournament was filled on Sunday when the Tennessee Titans clinched the AFC South division title.
With a victory over the Chiefs, the Denver Broncos are just one victory away from wrapping up the AFC West, such as it is.
The Pittsburgh Steelers control the steering wheel in the AFC North, but face a big game this Sunday in Baltimore. It’s the third leg of a four-game battle march. They beat New England and Dallas, face the Ravens, and then next week it’s Tennessee.
The AFC East is a three-team race, with the Jets holding a precarious edge with three games to go.
Here’s how it breaks down.

The chiefs were eliminated from the postseason picture with 1/4th of the season remaining to go. That is not what Clark Hunt publicly stated as expectations for the team.
The only thing I am looking forward to, at this point, is to hear Clark hunt’s evaluation of this season, and see what changes (if any) that he makes.
We’d better have either a different DC or a new linebacker coach. Gun’s got enough on his plate as it is. I’d like to see Squirmy find someone that can teach his “fresh out of college” players instead of trying to pump them up on the side lines with great intensitiy.
Once we reach the level that New England has, just in coaching alone, we’ll be worlds ahead. Look how many coaches have come through there, although none of them have been able to duplicate the success Hoodie has brought them.
I’m just hoping for 2 to 3 changes within the coaching staff, all pending the quality of available coaching tallent out there.
You are joking me. clark will not make any changes herm does not want as it should be. Maybe one or two to passify the rah rah guys about the brilliant future of the team but that is all. I presume carl and herm get to finish their contracts, we do not waste money (remember we had no use for Allen and got to be 30+ under the cap).
Another sign of the class of the KC chiefs, no more live band after the end of the season. I just hope they do not shoot Dipardo like War Paint. Sort of sad, nothing will be left soon except for the memories. Lenny, Otis, Derrick, and the rest, well there were greats for a while, just how far have we fallen to stay in the NFL?
I can hardly wait till clark can find a way to get his money without the fans in the stands. Then we can all sit at home and watch the chiefs not produce.
As usual with the Chiefs for the last 20 years, no one will be held accountable for failure, other than some poor sap assistant coach(s). Herm will scapegoat yet another co-ordinator, the sheep will eagerly buy into it, and it’ll be same old same old. I hope I’m wrong and Clark has Scott Pioli on speed dial, and the needed changes at the top and on the sideline will be made, but I’m not holding my breath.
I had an interesting thought. Rod Marenelli for the Lions more than likely will not be brought back as the head coach for them next year. He’s familiar with the Cover 2 defense and he’s an former defensive line coach. Wouldn’t you guys on here think he would be an excellent defensive coord. for our team next year? Question includes you too Bob what do you think?
Do you guys think he can do for our defense what Cam Cameron has done for the Ravens offense after head coaching a horrible team the year before. What do you guys think?
As long as Herm is the Head Coach, shuffling the co-ordinators may help a tiny bit, but doesn’t solve the main problem, that Herm is the Head Coach. We don’t want to bring in a co-ordinator that’s good at Herm’s Defensive sysytem, because Herm’s defensive system is what’s wrong, not who runs it.
If the system sucks Mark explain to me why Tampa Bay have produce over 34 pro-bowlers running the system. Explain why the Bears defense was so good back in 2006 running the same system. I just think we need to add to the personel and we need a defensive coord that understands it. You say that about the Tampa 2 defense but wheres the proof to bag it up. Did you know Herm’s first two years here running that system our defense ranked in the top 15. Some system huh??
The cover 2 requires blitz. We are on pace to have the fewest sacks of any NFL team in history that has ever played in the NFL. The cover 2 is an excellent system if all the pieces are in place. Basically the secondary and LB”s keep every thing in front of them in a semi soft zone and rely on the rush and on not giving up a big play expecting that the offense will not be able to march all the way down the field. However with no pass rush or run defense any scheme is bound for tough times
