2009 Opponents Set

With a week to go before the 2008 season is finished, the Chiefs 13 opponent for the 2009 season are set.

Here’s how it breaks down:

HOME – Oakland, Denver, San Diego, Buffalo, Cleveland, Dallas, the New York Giants and Pittsburgh.

AWAY – Oakland, Denver, San Diego, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Jacksonville, Philadelphia and Washington.

Under the NFL schedule formula, the Chiefs face the NFC East and the AFC North this year.  Because they will finish fourth in the AFC West, they will face the fourth place team from the other two AFC divisions (Buffalo and Jacksonville).

Hmm, too bad we have to face the best NFC division. I can imagine Buffalo and Jacksonville being better next year, so our “at large” games might not be that helpful.

Of course, playing Cleveland and the Bungles is always nice. Being in the AFC West doesn’t hurt either!

Playing the cowboys insures that i will be able to watch at least 1 game on TV.

  • December 22, 2008  - ED says:

Man what an easy schedule except for NFC east but boy we can win about 8 to 10 games next year if we address our personel needs and get some new defensive coaches.

Herm Edwards will have a better record in 2009 as KC Chiefs Head Ciach.

    :-)

    And as Head Coach too!

You gotta be kidding, ED! With our CURRENT situation, we’ll be VERY fortunate to get 5 wins out of this schedule barring unusual injuries. Who do you think we can beat besides maybe Oakland?

You get rid of some of our coaches, depending on which ones, and MAYBE…

Too early to speculate about whether this is a tough schedule or not. A lot of changes occur every year on every team. The NFC East may not be a world beater division next year. They couldn’t be any tougher than the South was this year. NO,ATL,CAR,TB. Those are four excellent teams and they all ate our lunch.

  • December 22, 2008  - colby says:

Speaking of changes, when Pioli (GM), McDaniels (HC), Capers (DC) and Cassel (QB) come over here from New England in the next couple of months, the Chiefs will start to look a lot more like a team nobody wants to face in 2009.

    Keep dreaming colby.

Good for you John. Even though it’s been somewhat painfull at times this year, I’ve managed to see every game. One of the few advantages of living in the Wichita market.

    Hey Tin Tin

The only HEAD thats gonna be associated with Herm Edwards next year is when he is on his knees begging the new GM to keep him!!!!!!!!!

This has absolutely NOTHING to do with the price of oil in saudi arabia but…..

I’m anxious to see Bob’s report on officials!

I wanna know what sorry ass SCROOGE of a ref would throw a flag for unsportsmanlike conduct on a guy makin a snow Angel after scoring a TD?!!??!!He has obviously lost his mind!!

I Hope he gets a stocking full of coal and a bowl of lima beans for Christmas and NOTHING ELSE!!

Colby speaks NOT with forked tongue my fellow Chief’s warriors. Look, there are so many variables in every NFL season to consider, one season to the next, that getting into the prediction game is a study in both contrasts and illusions.

All you wiser than I prognosticators, seers of all seers, should take your act to Vegas and cash in ASAP. The reality is that an organization has certain PREDICTORS of future performance without CERTAINTIES.

Selling certainty in an uncertain world was a great line in the movie “Two for the Money”. In the real world, my friends, it’s mostly a throw of the dice.

Yikes, that schedule actually scares me a bit, teams like the Browns will have a new head coach, and improve, same with Cinci, you also factor buffalo and jacksonville as being good teams as well.

Cant predict how the chiefs will do, but this is a tough schedule for anyone. Dallas, Pitt, NYG? Yeesh. Philly? Washington will be improved…we will see…I just hope the chiefs take Curry after a trade back and find a way to add spikes in the 2nd…just a preference.

Look forward to the return of Herm Edwards as Chiefs Head Coach 2009! Clark Hunt has RE-RE-affirmed him!

This is the real test of herm’s tenure in KC. This schedule is tough but not impossible. Now the important part – WHAT DOES THE NFL THINK OF HERMAN EDWARD’S CHIEFS? How many prime time games? How many MNF games? Let us see what the outside world thinks of the obvious successes in KC (right ED).

Let us just relax. I still say maybe 6 wins in 2009. But with another major influx of first year players and no free agents like THIS YEAR, maybe a repeat of 2 wins in 2009

  • December 22, 2008  - B in SC says:

I would expect as many prime time/MNF games as the Rams, Lions, Browns, and Bengals. We don’t have anything to offer at this point. Even the most optimistic evaluator would say the Chiefs are at least 2 seasons away from being seriously competitive.

The schedule looks daunting right now, but it will change after the 1st week. Hardly anyone predicted the contenders for this season.

Everyone should read the Whitlock article in the KC Star on Dorsey recently. One time I actually agree with Whitlock-does not often happen.

To borrow from the religious lyric a generation (and too since Herm IS our Savior in a football sense) -

    heh heh heh

    from chiefsplanet.com:

498: Number of total yards gained by the Chiefs Sunday.
31: Number of points scored against a D that had not allowed a TD in 13 quarters.
1: Tyler Thigpen’s ranking in QB rushing yards.
8: Games Chiefs lost by 7 points or less in 2008.
32: Rank of the Chiefs in total defense.
-12: Temperature on the field with windchill factored in.
10: Total number of games Thigpen has started in the NFL.
18: Number of rookies on the Chiefs roster.
32,000,000: Amount of dollars Chiefs were under the salary cap by in 2008.

Can anyone hang this on Thigpen?

  • December 23, 2008  - Alex says:

With Dorsey, I think his play improves once the chiefs add a few LB’s, honestly he will be able to do more, right now he has to play the position…Its why I really hope a Curry/Spikes in the 1st/2nd happens and break the bank, bring in Peppers…Resign Jarad Page, hes turned into a leader of sorts, I really dont think the team is that far away, but I also believe that this whole Herm in or out concept is going to cause issues….hes already talking about the strain on his family…wont take long till it becomes a bit much, and the entire staff has to be removed…I just want Charles to see more touches, for LB’s to be brought in, for Flowers/Carr/Leggett to be 1/2/3 next year, and hopefully Turk can replace Tamba, Peppers could play the other side, and add in Curry/Spikes with DJ(his contract year), and I think you got a defense, finally.

  • December 23, 2008  - MenInRed says:

I see it a 7-9 season at best, but more like another 4-12 with that schedule.

I wished it could be more, but I’m trying to keep it real.

  • December 23, 2008  - ED says:

Its not all on Tyler but next year if Herm is brought back no more excuses get it done. Hopefully Clark will bring a Gm from under the Parcells or Bellichick regime and if he retains Herm no more excuses. No more 4 and 12 or 3 and 13 seasons. We just need to win next year I’m not saying 12 or 13 games but at least 7 or 8plus wins next year. I would go as far to say win the division. The Broncos are an embarassment, The Raiders are awful, and Chargers are still having the Marty hang over despite probably winning this division this year. No more excuses we need to get it done in 2009.

  • December 23, 2008  - ED says:

I’m not putting it all on HErm because he worked with a GM that was almost impossible to win with because of Carl like of knowledge about drafting or signing current free agents, but if we get a competent Gm that wants to keep him around then he needs to get it done and I think he will.
