Wednesday Morning Cup O’Chiefs
Let the debate begin.
With three weeks to go in the 2008 season, the fans, media and even some folks in the locker room are casting their votes on the future status of Tyler Thigpen.
Is he the team’s quarterback of the future? Should the Chiefs ignore Thigpen’s improvement and draft a passer early in the 2009 NFL Draft? Should they fish in the free agency waters and bring in a more veteran quarterback to lead the team in 2009?
Herm Edwards touched on the subject yesterday. He said nothing definitive as to where he stood on the issue, other than Thigpen is the Chiefs starter right now. Whether that means he still has that job next year remains in doubt.
One player cast his vote earlier this week. Speaking to ESPN.com, Tony Gonzalez said he believes Thigpen should be the man and that “It would be a disgrace if they don’t. We’ve been playing well since he came in.”
No question the offense has been more productive. But in seven starts, the Chiefs are 1-6 under Thigpen. Yards and points have gone up, but that’s not produced winning efforts.
Still, Gonzalez is placing his support squarely in Thigpen’s corner.
“Maybe I like him because he throws to me,” Gonzalez said. “He’s a good kid. He’s humble. He listens. He’s not like a lot of young players today who thinks they are the best. He wants to get to better and he will.”
Edwards talked on Tuesday about decisions ahead for the Chiefs, on what type of offense they will use in ’09 and whether Thigpen is the guy they should hitch their offensive wagon too.
Gonzalez leaves no doubt on what he thinks the Chiefs should do.
“You already got your quarterback,” Gonzalez said. “You get something else to help us.”
FROM THE PAGES OF CHIEFS HISTORY
On December 10, 1972, the Chiefs beat the Baltimore Colts 24-10 at Arrowhead Stadium. A crowd of 44,175 fans sat through weather conditions where the wind-chill was minus five degrees. The star of the day was RB Wendell Hayes, who ran for 104 yards on 19 carries and caught five passes for 55 yards, including 13-yard TD pass from QB Len Dawson. WR Otis Taylor caught a 25-yard TD pass from Dawson and RB Ed Podolak scored on a five-yard run.
On December 10, 1989, the Chiefs beat the Green Bay Packers 21-3 at Lambeau Field. It was a big second quarter for the offense and a top-level performance by the defense that brought the Chiefs victory on the hallowed grounds of Lambeau. Steve DeBerg had touchdown passes of 11 yards to TE Jonathan Hayes and 12 yards to WR Emile Harry. Christian Okoye got the other score with a three-yard TD run, one of 38 he had in the game for a total of 131 yards. The Chiefs defense gave up just 208 yards and Lloyd Burruss has an interception of Packers QB Don Majkowski. Neil Smith, Dan Saleaumua and Albert Lewis had sacks.
SAY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO …
A couple of former participants in Lamar Hunt’s franchise were born on this day. QB Hunter Enis was born December 10, 1936 and played in 14 games for the Dallas Texans in 1960. He had one TD and two INTs.
And on this day in 1947, Clyde Werner was born. The linebacker out of the University of Washington played in five different season with the Chiefs (1970, 1972-74 and 1976). In 70 games, he had two INTs.
OPPONENT NEXT/SAN DIEGO CHARGERS
Overconfidence may have been what killed the Chargers chances in 2008.
The Chargers announced on Tuesday that they will not raise their ticket prices in 2009.
AROUND THE LEAGUE
The NFL Players Association has filed a grievance against the New York Giants decision to suspend wounded WR Plaxico Burress.
Jacksonville WR Matt Jones gets a three-game suspension for being arrested with cocaine.
The bad economy has even hit the NFL, as the league announces layoffs among its employees.
Plans to build a new stadium in Los Angeles have been pushed back.
AROUND THE REST OF THE AFC WEST
JaMarcus Russell is limping along and other notes from RaidersLand.
The Broncos are trying to keep any running back, I mean any running back on the field.
Â

I think TONY is right lets get better on offensive line and rest will take care of its self.
Also keep shoring up our defense we are better but we need be GREAT
My vote is for TYLER !!!!!!!!!!!
I agree, QB should be a low priority in the draft. Lets focus on getting more players along the OL to block for the running game and on pass plays. We also need to get some good explosive players at the LB position to support DJ. We also need to work with Tyler during the off season to get him to become a more polished QB. If we can do that I will really be looking forward to next year.
Thiggy is my man all the way!
We need O line, 1 more reciever and more on defense.
Dear Santa,
All I want for Christmas is a pass rusher.
Love,
The Chiefs
We need a DE from FA, not draft, we need an impact pass rusher immediatly! Sick of waiting for guys to “develop” i.e. Tyler, hali, dorsey…
With a monster OL, then you only need a QB to manage the game. Thigpen would fit nicely even if he is not a great QB (would like to see an improvement on accuracy and looking off receivers). But herm needs to buy into the spread offense, which I doubt will happen.
MORE important – The Def. Line and LB must be fixed or this team is marking time until the next rebuild. Based on past preformance it will not happen thru the draft and the chiefs seem lost in free agency for these positions. What do you do?
“You already got your quarterback,”Âť Gonzalez said. “You get something else to help us.”Âť
I like how he used the word “us”. This would imply to me that TG is considering comming back next season.
Our season was going nowhere, until Thigpen stepped up and put a smile on our faces.
If we do not sign him to a good contract, he will be traded off and come back to haunt us.
This is just his first year, he will get better, just give him the chance. Reporters are trying to compare him to Cutler, Culter is in his third year now, and in some games he still played poorly, no way we can make a comparison at this time.
Unfortunately, just because most of us know that Tony G. is absolutely right…doesn’t mean that Herm and Carl will agree.
tm1946…..i also thought herm would squash this whole idea of our new offensive approach. However listening to his press conference from yesterday on kcchiefs.com he likes it and said how it has not only helped thigpen and the receivers but also the offensive line. I think chan is a great coordinator, look what hes transformed this offense into in a short time DURING the season, imagine what could come up with in the offseason with more time.
Chiefsman…this media crap comparing thigpen to cutler is ridiculous, whenever I hear something said about it I just think back how thigpen outplayed one of the best ever a few weeks ago. (favre)
Anyone think the Chiefs have their eye on a certain LB (that might fit well as our outside man) as a first pick, wich played a big part in switching DJ to middle? Just a thought.
Aaron Curry just wont he Butkus award(wake forest), plays outside…hmm…?
Don’t forget Brodie is still part of this team. I think that Thiggy has a good chance of becoming a journeyman QB like Gannon and many other guys. He will not be an elite QB but that is ok. It all depends on what Chan wants. I think that Thiggy is Herm’s kind of guy. They will not be looking early in the Draft for a QB but don’t be surprised if they draft one. Unless they pick someone up in FA. My preference would be that they draft a young guy in a later round.
Right now Thiggy needs Tony G. more than Tony needs him to throw passes his way and I am sure Tony likes that. I think there is more to it than that though, sounds like Tony likes the person as well and that is a good thing.
Thigpen has earned the right to be the starter next season. He’ll have some bad games, but so did Peyton Manning this year. All players have poor performances now and again. Thigpen has actually shown that he is capable of playing well more so than playing poorly and has erased my doubts.
If the Chiefs keep the spread, that opens up a whole new world of college QBs that could come in here and develop. Even with Thigpen they should still draft a QB to develop just in case. TTech’s Harrell might actually succeed in the NFL if he could run a spread and he could probably be had in the 5th or 6th round as opposed to spending our top pick on him.
Finally, even though it’s too early to tell who will be in this draft for sure and how highly they’ll be rated come April, if Tebow comes out early and is available in the 2nd round I’d take him. Thigpen, Tebow and Gray would be a nice trio at QB. All of them are mobile, with strong arms.
What about Erasmus James, he was cut from the Redskins. We was a former first rounder in ’05. Worth a look at least.
Brodie is in the last year of his contract. He will become the journeyman. As for Thigpen, the Chiefs would be crazy to draft a QB in the early rounds with all of our neeeds. I say they make a deal, and bring a guy like Derek Anderson in to compete with Thigpen, and make him work for the starting job next year. I think he’ll play harder if he has to earn it.
COLBY – right one the money . Good pass rushers , and some time .
Sure, Thigpen is 1-6, and partly because he struggled in the 2nd half, so first half blowouts became a struggle to hold the lead by the 4th quarter.
But a good part of the 1-6 is that our defense *didn’t* hold a multiple-score lead in half the losses.
To fix that, we don’t need to change the QB or the offense, and I think Herm thinks that way. I think what is going to happen is they are going to give Thigpen certain specific goals in each of the next 3 games. Some of the goals will be:
1) Limit/eliminate turnovers. Possible standards: no more than 1 INT/game, and no more than 2 total; or perhaps even a goal of 0 INTs period. Dunno.
2) Spread the ball around. Possible standards: no more than 33% of pass attempts to TonyG; or a minimum of 3 pass attempts for each possible receiver (RB, TonyG, Bowe, Bradley, Cottam, Webb/Darling)
3) Scramble to pass, not scramble to run. Possible standards: Scrambles must be to the sideline where he can avoid getting hit…or execute such-and-such broken-play scramble for a long TD pass, etc
4) Successfully execute plays behind center
And Thigpen will be evaluated on how he hits these specific benchmarks, win or lose. Those benchmarks won’t be 100% of the decision, of course, because he’ll have the off-season to work with the #1 offense and directly w/ Chan Gailey as the starting QB (an advantage he never had before), but if he doesn’t hit the benchmarks, they might be more tempted to have a back-up plan. If he hits the benchmarks, Herm/Gailey should be convinced that he can continue his progression into a full-fledged NFL QB who can run any offensive system.
Thus, the biggest area that needs to be fixed is the pass rush, and the LBs. Luckily, getting a great LB can help fix both of those problems. Improving the O-line is also a priority, because while ours wasn’t horrible, there are plenty of opportunities to upgrade. RT and RG were clearly no better than average at best. As much as I like Niswanger, we could improve there, too, because he clearly wasn’t at a pro-bowl level, and not about to play at a pro-bowl level next year, either.
I’ve said before, the first 3 picks of the 2009 draft, no matter what position (whether we trade down to pick up 2 #1s or not), need to be spent on the best player available at LB and DE. It should net us 1 DE and 2 LBs. Then whatever picks we have left can be the BPA at O-line, RB (because ours keep getting injured), WR (because Bradley is a great #2 but has a history of injury problems, and the jury is out on Franklin), S (because Page and Pollard are fine, but neither are pro-bowl and could be upgraded), and maybe even DT (to improve rotation after Dorsey/Tank)…and if there are good BPA LBs or DEs after our 1st 3 picks, take more.
[...] According to Bob, it hasn’t been locked up yet: Herm Edwards touched on the subject yesterday. He said nothing definitive as to where he stood on the issue, other than Thigpen is the Chiefs starter right now. Whether that means he still has that job next year remains in doubt. [...]
Nothing gets under my skin quite like the continual notion that “Thigpen and the offense have done well, but the team is 1-6 in the last 7 games since they started using Thigpen in the spread offense.” Last time I checked, the Chiefs held leads in nearly every game, except for the Buffalo debacle.
AT SOME POINT the team has to field a defense that poses SOME TYPE of threat to the opposing offense. I grew sick and tired of the arguement that the Vermeil-Saunders offense was hurting the defense by “scoring too often and too quickly”. Now I see people looking down on Tyler Thigpen’s record as a starting quarterback, as though the fact that the Chiefs’ defense has been at or near the very bottom of the league over that stretch hasn’t been the majority of the reason that the Chiefs have been blowing leads. Ridiculous.
Build a defense (or bring in a defensive *coaching staff*) that can actually STOP the opponent, and THEN talk to me about Thigpen’s influence on the team’s win-loss record.
—Tim
All I have to say about Tyler is he’s ahead of Russell who was the number #1 pick in the 2007 draft and ahead of golden boy Brady because he’s played in more games. Why change. Why take a quarterback in the draft. Maybe bring a solid backup but the guy is way ahead of schedule in how he’s playing. Did anyone see guys like Peyton Manning or Eli Manning first couple years at quarterback. Stick with him.
I will say this. Give this guy an improved right side of the offensive line. A better defense next year. And more consistency in running the football and there is no doubt we can be AFC west champs next year. If we address our problems in the trenches on both sides of the ball watch how many games this kid can win next year.
Is he the great QB who knows but the kid has all the tools to be a winner in this league. Great arm, mobility, durable, leader, and most important great attitude. The kid is very humble and wants to get better. When you have a guy that has all those tools you keep him and surround him with talent to make him better.
LOL you guys are crazy…..
If offensive prowess means 10 points against Denver, then by all means be happy…..
To be a solid team in the league, you have to RUN THE FOOTBALL…Teams that run the spread offense fail to win consistently (except the pats). Running the ball, protecting leads, keeping your (YOUNG) defense of the field is the way to the championships (although .500 would be good for next year). No offense to Tyler, but the guy has to learn how to take snaps from under center. If he cant read a defense while dropping back there is no point to him. I need a qb on my team who can do both. Shotgun, IFORM, split back. Running the ball and being able to change formations and execute gets it done.
And last, setting goals is great, but telling your qb to not throw picks makes him tentative. Telling you QB to throw to someone 33% of time is RIDICULOUS and the only stat as far as QB that concerns me is WINS!!!!!! Throw for 150 yds and no picks, no tds, if we win, thats what i want. Throw for 400 yds and 4 tds and 2 picks. IF WE WIN THATS OK. Thats what matters, 10 off points vs one of the leagues worst D aint gonna cut it.
HATE BEING NEGATIVE just needed to bring common sense back.
GO CHIEFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tyler deserves the opportunity to continue to develop. It seems Herm is perhaps entertaining the idea of trying to emmulate Indy. Theirs is a hybrid attack. The difference is Manning is great under center OR in the “gun”.
We MUST be able to knock people off the ball. I believe Herm is right on this. From center over to the right, we cannot.
It will make no difference though, if we don’t get a better front 7. Boone IS NOT a DE. He, Dorsey & Tyler should make up most of the rotation at DT. We have to get better, more productive DEs & LBs or its all for naught.

Clark – GO GET MARTY AND BILL!!
I knew someone had to be negative so let me address the foolishness. First of all we have had success running the ball out of the spread for one Larry had 94 yards against the Raiders and the week before he had 81 yard on 11 attempts against Buffalo. So we can run the ball out of the formation if we just be more consistent doing it. Second I agree with your point in running the football, but you have to have balance to do that. And so far this season Thigpen has provided a solid passing game.
WE’ve had leads that the defense hasn’t been good enough to protect and the absence of Larry had caused problems with us running the football late in the games he missed. Does he has to improve in snapping the ball from center yes. Does he need to be more consistent spreading the ball around yes. Does are things that can be fixed in the offseason. All young quarterback has things that they can improve on you’re just mentioning his. But he has brought stability to the position and is outplaying alot guys that went ahead of him in the 2007 draft.
That being said he can be the long term starter for the things I mention. To win in this league a quarterback has to have a good defense which he does not have and a solid running game. Which we haven’t been consistent in giving Larry a certain amount of carries. When he gets around 22 to 25 carries he produces so thats a coaching issue nothing to do with Tyler. None of these things Tyler has. He doesn’t have a good defense 32nd rank and worst in team history in sacks. And the running game hasn’t been consistent because of the lack of carries they sometimes give Larry.
But inspite of all this team weaknessess he has had this team in position to win alot of games against good teams and good defenses. That is good enough for me. NOw the organization needs to build better talent around him to be successful starting with an improved right side of the offensive line and a better front seven on defense.
And as far as the points is concerned. We’ve been averaging more points since he’s took over as the starting quarterback. Trust me o
Love Tony G.! And, I agree with him on Thigpen.
However, Thigpen needs to improve his play in the 2nd half of football games through the remainder of the season. He should be treated as the QB and given all the training, support, etc. that comes with that.
Chiefs have got to continue to improve their lines (OL and DL). Grab a gamebreaker with their top 5-8 pick, regardless of position. Would love to see a nasty, mean gamebreaking LB or DE there for us to pick. BUT, if Stafford, Bradford, Crabtree or Maclin is “best available” player there in 1st round – TAKE HIM! Gamebreakers, baby!
I was really believing that tyler thigpen will be great however I have started to temper that expectation. He really is not very accurate. He will be a solid qb in the nfl. strong arm, avg. accuracy, great feet. He will be a guy like, mike mcmahon… if you remember him. He is out of league now or a back up somewhere. I think thigpen will be great off the bench but I would love to have bradford to learn behind thigpen next year. Listen, I want a franchise guy…I want my manning or brady, I am sick of winning games but not the big ones. we need a qb that infuriates the other team. I was furious watching cutler cut up our defense. He is great and I want a great one two. we never had an answer to elway and now we wont have an answer to cutler unless we get bradford. I think bradford will be great, however, if we don’t get him because he isn’t available, forget a qb for at least the first few rounds because there isn’t one worth the pick. Stafford will be a collosal bust! He has no touch or decision making. Thigpen will be fine but I want someone great.
Slow down goody. First of all Bradford is a sophmore no gurantees he’s coming out this year. Next their is only one Manning and Brady. You can win a Super Bowl with out having a great quarterback. Ask Dilfer or Brad JOhnson. Thigpen accuracy is something he’ll continue to improve on with more reps. Besides his accuracy is night and day now compared to the Atlanta game. So imagine how much it can improve with the whole offseason to get better.
As far as Elway goes he lost his first 4 Super Bowls before he won one. WE can win a Super Bowl with Tyler if we can get him a good defense and a solid running game. It wasn’t until then Elway won his Super Bowl. Keep that in mind.
Just A Tidbit of info…
Last week we only scored one offensive touchdown yet everyone (including Bob G.) forgets that by Leggett SCORING on the interception the offense had one less drive and 4-9 minutes less time of possession, etc. If there would have been no interception and let’s say a punt and TT drove down for an OFFENSIVE score would we be having this discussion? Add one more foot on his 4 2/3rds yard run and tie the game and now with 3 touchdowns on offense instead of one where do you stand?
Dear Santa,
All we went for Christmas is a sack of quarterback.
Sincerely,
~The Chiefs defense
Maybe Santa could at least knock down a QB. The chiefs def line apparently does not like to touch opposing QBs. I sure herm will address this some day real soon.
What I don’t understand is that Herm has changed his offense to fit with what he has, WHY OH WHY hasn’t he done this for his defense? The cover 2 relies so heavily on a strong pass rush from your front 4, which we obviously don’t have! CHANGE SOMETHING ON DEFENSE HERM!
JT – Funny! Thanks for the laugh.
lol……ok, curiously what were we going to do if Tyler scores? stop them afterward? ha! and what guarantee do i have we score after leggett picks off that pass if he doesnt run it back? none. And that is a horrible defense and we checked out on 3 and outs way to many times. Because we dont have a legit full back and dont snap the ball out of a legit running formation we have no consistency running the ball. WE do get big plays on occasion, but its usually 15 yds or 2 yds. not consistent running, which leads to great drives and ups the chances of not having three and outs.
WE CANT RUN OUT OF A NORMAL FORMATION BECAUSE TT CANT READ D’S WHILE TAKING A 5 STEP DROP. UNTIL HE DOES THAT, I HAVE LITTLE FAITH WE CAN CONSISTENLY WIN CLOSE GAMES. REMEMBER THAT ITS A 60 MIN GAME AND WHAT YOU DO IN THE 1st 2nd and 3rd impacts what you do in the fourth. We cant hold a lead or even get one because the running game cant consistently get yardage. sorry, thats the way it is, look at the tape.
IT- you can not blame the offense for getting us leads and the defense not stopping anyone. I am on the thigpen bandwagon. This offense has turned a 180 and is headed in the right direction. Our run game is doing decent except last week and their defense squared up to make sure they didnt get burnt by the run. We were ahead 10-7 and 17-7 and our defense couldnt stop a square log from rolling.
I’m disappointed that they have gone exclusively to the spread, I was hoping we would slowly work Thigpen into the pro set.
I too am skeptical with the spread I like it as a tool but not as our main Offense.
John I agree with you but I do think in the offseason they will work with Tyler to improve him in a conventional style offense as well. Give it time. I think next year we will see both styles being used in the passing and running game. As for I.T. complaining let it go. This offense is light years ahead of last year offense. And if you’ve been watching every game like I have this season you would know we are running the ball successfully out of the spread. I just mention early on here the stats Larry had in the Raiders and Bills game. Its up to Chan to give Larry more than 11 carries.
I agree with you that we need to have both a conventional style as well. But even Herm admitted in his interview yesterday he likes the fact we’re still able to run the ball out of the spread offense.
Defense is way more of a problem for this team than offense. WE can’t get off the field on 3rd downs unless we’re getting a turnover. Our defense reminds me of the 2005 Bengals defense. Where we only can stop the other team if we take the ball away. Defense is way more of a concern than quarterback. And so is right tackle and guard.
My vote is for “the kid”. Brodie needs to get lost. Keep grandpa around to tutor “the kid”, and the guy we picked up late this year as a back up. Get rid of L.J. for a couple of picks, and draft a rb. one who does not assult women. Blunt out of Oregon seems to run over pople. One more BIG WR. and then all of the picks left on the def. Go to big12def.com, let’s not go to the well and sign any old guys let’s keep the team young through the draft one more year. All good things come to those who wait…. one more year it can happen. Keep the faith and pray that king carl leaves town. I am, I am gonna buy his ticket on a very fast plane……… one way.
Marine? or just a nic?
Why the hell would we keep Huard?
Thigpen,Croyal,Gray and either Martin or a late rd draft pick in camp should suffice. (unless we get at shot at Bradford then you’d have to reevaluate the situation)
Thigpen, Thigpen, Thigpen!
First of all, Brodie Croyle is too insecure, scared, and injury prone to be a starting QB in this league. He was never confident in his ability to play this game.
Second, L.J. does not need to go. There are two things that are messing with his game play right now. (1) L.J. does not know how to deal with his “in the closet” secret. Hey, I don’t care if you want to invite your best friend over and play doctor, that’s your business, however when you’re at a club and some girl is hitting on you and she’s hot and you’re ignoring her because your fantasizing about playing twister with some dude and she calls you on it…you might throw a drink on her too. I’m not saying I agree, I voted yes on prop 8, but I understand. (2) This is as much of a learning game for the team as it is for Hermie!!! Herm does not know how to run, combine, or use an effective offense. I don’t care what he says, he has never had success offensively.( with his own team) HERM needs to get an AGGRESSIVE PLAY CALLER AND A FULLBACK and trust his team and running back a little more. L.J., buddy, I don’t care how you swing, hell, you and T.O. can make muffins all night long, just please, run like the beast we all know you to be and stop WHINING!
Third, if Tony says get something to help “US”, DAMNIT CARL DO IT!!! You got rid of Allen, please don’t make the same mistake by getting a QB and telling Tony to help that youngin out! He’s not a BIG BROTHER, he’s a future HALL OF FAMER TREAT HIM LIKE IT!
I feel like I’m Jack Nicholson in “One flew over the cookoo’s nest” and Bob Gretz is handing out the crazy pills!!! UGH!!!
What!?
Where did all this come from?
I disagree with Thigpen starting it’s all about competition in this league . You go out and see what you have out there in the draft and free agency . Thigpen did not look great until they install the spread he was not sucessful in the pro power running game Herm has told Chan to install during the offseason believe me Herm wants boring ball run, screens, draws, and dinks and doinks eight yards down field and every blue moon take chances down field. He believes in ball control . Herm is just swallowing the spread because it’s moving the ball with the talent he has. Believe me he will go back to ball control, controlling the clock. And besides defenses will adjust next year for this spread, and the wildcat.Herm believes in ball control! control the clock baby! and thats how it is. But anyway he and Chan will reinstall what Herm believes in running the football I like the imagination of the spread and Thigpen strives in it but look at the record this team has two wins with him at the helm. They will draft a Qb in the third to fourth round and free agency they will explore and find a man that can run the ball control offense he wants.
sorry one win thigpen has as a starter
Oh yes by the way my name was Vess and I was a Chiefs fan now my name will be known now as a NFL fan
gettin’ Thiggy with it …nananana..nanana…nana..nana.na
Keep and develop Gray as a reliable #2.
Draft a Qb in the 6th/7th round or free agent prospect for the 3rd Qb.
Send the two statues on their way.
Huard thanks for the stellar back up duty in ’06. Brokie uhh…keep up your health insurance policy and good luck on your future endeavors.
Thigpen was a running back in high school.
He was the first QB in a brand new d2 football program.
The only offense he ran at CC was the spread.
How can he be expected to successfully and consistently read NFL defenses from under center the very first time he gets a chance to play with the big boys? Think about it! His learning curve this year has been nothing short of stellar. Has he always played well or made every correct decision? Serious fans should laugh when those questions are asked. But, was I the only one who noticed TT under center last week more times than the three weeks before combined? Chan knows how to bring him along slowly. I’d be willing to be San Diego is going to see the I-formation way more than they expect this weekend. Give this kid time, he looks more like the real deal than any young QB I have ever seen in a Chief’s uniform(Dawson had been the league a few years before he came to KC so don’t call me out on him). Gretz said earlier he reminded him of a young Rich Gannon. I couldn’t agree more.
Offensive line, I still don’t understand why Herb Taylor is not the starting RT. Draft O-line first round? I hope not, there is already young talent there.
Pass rush is the most glaring need on this team. If I were acquiring talent for the Chiefs, I’d draft a LB with proven pass rush ability and look for a veteran DE in free agency to get some pressure.
LJ will stay. He’s got good years left.
