Tuesday Morning cup o’chiefs
From River Falls, Wisconsin
Herm Edwards foot comes off the gas pedal a bit today for the Chiefs players here in the northwoods. They’ll have a special teams practice this morning. These usually go for about one hour without pads with special teams coach Mike Priefer. Some of the veteran players who are not part of the kicking game do not even attend the workout. Instead they’ll lift weights or do some conditioning. Then, everyone will be back on the field in full pads for an afternoon session. COUNTDOWN
It’s 9 days from the Chiefs pre-season opener against the Bears in Chicago. It’s 40 days to the regular season opener in Foxboro against the Patriots and it’s 47 days until the Chiefs return to Arrowhead Stadium for their regular season home opener against the Oakland Raiders.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame ceremonies in Canton, Ohio where Emmitt Thomas will officially be inducted are just five days away. We will be at the Hall for the ceremonies and we’ll have complete coverage right here over the weekend.
FROM THE PAGES OF CHIEFS HISTORY
It was on this day in 1972 that Lamar Hunt was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. He was joined for induction by Gino Marchetti, Ollie Matson and Clarence “Ace” Parker.
On the same day the Chiefs beat the New York Giants 23-17 in the Hall of Fame Game. Chiefs touchdowns were scored by QB Mike Livingston on a 39-yard run and RB Wendel Hayes caught a 7-yard TD from Livingston. Otis Taylor had five catches for 99 yards in the game and Jan Stenerud kicked three field goals. The Chiefs defense held the Giants to 54 yards on 22 carries
AROUND THE LEAGUEÂ
So we’ve heard a lot of what Brett Favre has to say through his media favorites. Now here’s what Packers GM Ted Thompson had to say about the situation with the retired/unretired quarterback.
Here’s a strange one: Philadelphia G Shawn Andrews did not report to the Eagles camp and nobody – not Andrews, his agent or the team – is saying why.
AROUND THE AFC WEST
- A lengthy but interesting story about RB Darren McFadden and his life growing up in Arkansas. Based on what his life has been like so far, the NFL may be pretty easy for McFadden to live with. Here’s the story.
- At the Broncos camp in Denver, G Montrae Holland is just trying to get on the practice field. A 16-game starter last year, for the Donkeys, Holland showed up for camp overweight and he’s still trying to get on the field.
- This player spent the off-season working on new breathing techniques, visiting a sports psychologist and preparing other tricks of the mind. It must be a kicker. Here’s what San Diego’s Nate Kaeding has been up to.Â

Enjoy your writing and enjoyed the article on McFadden this morning.
