It’s great (right now) to watch #4 run around – long as he survives unscathed. Some of his act is personal style, other out of necessity but a long QB life in today’s NFL will ‘not’ be in the cards for such…don’t take my word for it, just peruse the dossier NFL QB injuries this year/years back to survey the carnage.

It’s a rough game, but more unforgiving when the QB – by most measure the most valuable commodity in the game (don’t we know in KC)- is lost. Run Tyler run, just don’t get caught because at 6′0 (he’s 6′1 my keister) and (probably no more than 215, if that), he’s not indestructible.

Remember when Trent Green started every game for the Chiefs over multiple seasons? No, and neither does he.

Alas, eventually as we Chiefly know, even whence via a player not an all out scrambler per se and with no distinction ‘tween young and old (Green, Huard, Croyle here, other QBs same elsewhere) it catches up with players – most all who live (and die) by that sword football, chances train wreck only exacerbated when fate is tested degree more.

Reiterating, the best recent examples include one Steve Young… Steve “One Concussed Head is NE’ER Enough So Let Me Have Several Please” Young. Ever watched Steve on TV now that his career has been concussed, er concluded? I rest my case (for that matter look at Tony Kornheiser – & he wasn’t even a QB.)

It’s hard enough when a QB is not running around, and I’m talking big guys with some size like Troy Aikman (consussions), Trent Green (concussions), Dante Culpepper (knee/leg), and too Steve McNair (cumulative), as well smaller guys who while not out and out scramablers were at least more mobile than sitting ducks.

This isn’t as simple as saying that football is a rough sport…what happened to Joe Theismann, and Napolean McCallum are examples of that. Too, a QB scrambling isn’t the issue…to different extents all QBs have to scramble. Tyler Thigpen as a host of other like-minded afore him will NOT last long if he isn’t a bit more judicious – spelled SMART & LUCKY. Immaterial too whether in pocket or out, issue be recklessness (Herm Edwards alluded said i.e., Thigpen needs to be aware, which is all he can, no MUST do. And even so, **** happens, but you don’t have to go looking for it, per se. We don’t wanna lose the best story to date Chiefs football 2008 – thus I concur with Herm…don’t say I didn’t tell you so.

Gonna be a lot of long faces if/when he does go down for the count- “The Young and the Reckless” starring “The Little Big Man”, Tyler Thigpen. I hope he stays in one piece. Careful TT, careful, just saying…

The overall offense seemed to lose some intensity and pacing in the last part of the game. I’m not sure why that was. All in all, though, hats off to Thiggy for his play, and to the Chiefs for continuing to adjust to his style. I look forward to seeing his progression; let’s see where he takes this.

What really irked me yesterday about the offense, besides the call against Gonzalez at the end, was the inability of anyone to get open at times. I mean, when Thigpen is rolling out or just plain running around extending the play, someone has got to get open. He’s buying everyone extra time to break free, and they have to take advantage. Maybe they’re not completely used to that yet.

I think the Chiefs need to be very, very careful how they use LJ when he returns. I don’t want to see them go back to trying the predictable, smashmouth stuff on first and second down, and then expect Thigpen to go shotgun on third and eight. LJ needs to do some blocking and a lot more pass catching, which he can do if he wants to. I just think they need to stay creative.

TT, you took some big shots (for a little guy) in yesterday’s game…if you don’t CUT, IT, OUT, you will soon join the likes of the large (Culpepper) and the small (Croyle), the fast aka one ‘One Is Never Enough’ Steve ‘Concussion’ Young), and the slow (Trent Green)…but hopefully not the dead.

No one is immune, so don’t take those unecessary chances because…well, here in KC we would like to see a QB remain healthy enough to start ‘more’ than two games in a row.

IF we can contain LT and Sproles in the running game we should have a great chance to win. Put the heat on Rivers in the passing game by forcing them to be one dimentional we should do fine.
