Star-Studded Sunday At Arrowhead
There will be plenty of stars around Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday when the Chiefs and Cowboys face off in a noon kickoff.
And we aren’t talking about the stars on the Cowboys helmets, as they will be wearing throwback uniforms. The Chiefs will be in replica uniforms of the 1962 AFL Champion Dallas Texans, including gray facemasks and black shoes.
In their 40th anniversary season, the 1969 Super Bowl Chiefs will be honored and some 15 members of that team that beat the Minnesota Vikings at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans will be at the game. The franchise’s leading career rusher Priest Holmes will be in the building, as will former head coach Dick Vermeil. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will be in the house. So will NFL shadow-commissioner Jerry Jones, owner of the Cowboys. Fox-TV’s No. 1 broadcast crew of Joe Buck and Hall of Fame QB Troy Aikman are handling the broadcast.
There are other stars and moments scheduled for game-day:
- Holmes will be honored on the field about 15 minutes before kickoff. Joining him will be Vermeil, former Chiefs assistant coach Billy Long and Holmes’ children DeAndre, Jekovian and Corion Holmes.
- There will be a flyover by four AT-38 aircraft along with the national anthem.
- Taking part in the pre-game coin toss will be representatives from the Super Bowl IV team: Bobby Bell, Willie Lanier, Jan Stenerud, Jack Steadman and Phyllis Stram.
- The NFL Alumni-Kansas City chapter will present a check to the Dream Factory and will be joined by Goodell and Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt.
- At half-time the Super Bowl IV team will be honored. The ceremonies include Len Dawson carrying the Super Bowl trophy to midfield. Other members of the team that will join Dawson, Bell, Lanier and Stenerud will be Fred Arbanas, Ceasar Belser, Ed Budde, Chuck Hurston, Jim Kearney, Ed Lothamer, Curtis McClinton, Ed Podolak and Noland Smith.
- Other Chiefs alumni who are expected to attend includes Tony Adams, Derrick Alexander, Kimble Anders, Gary Barbaro, Bryan Barker, Mike Bell, Chris Burford, Keith Cash, Deron Cherry, Walt Corey, Jerry Cornelison, Anthony Davis, Charlie Diamond, Kendall Gammon, Charlie Getty, Kelly Goodburn, Tim Grunhard, Abner Haynes, Danan Hughes, Eddie Kennison, Ken Kremer, Bill Krisher, Pete Koch, Dave Lindstrom, Larry Marshall, Chris Martin, Ted McKnight, Christian Okoye, Bobby Ply, Scott Radecic, Kerry Reardon, Al Reynolds, Dan Saleaumua, Neil Smith, Gary Spani, Marcus Spears, Art Still, Smokey Stover and Walter White.
- Former Chiefs kicker Nick Lowery will be recognized as the ‘09 inductee to the Chiefs Hall of Fame.

What a PERFECT time it would be for the Chiefs to notch their first win of the season.
Seriously,
If that cast doesn’t get you excited and ready to win a game…what will?!
I wish I as going to be there in person, it would send chills down your body
Reading the list of names from Chiefs past ….is like a who’s/who from my youth !! Little did I know that 35yrs later we wouldn’t be in another SB Spoiled Right. The only way to fix the future is look at the past failures . The 1 most damming is a truly great QB ….yes we had good/bad/in between…. not in their prime Great QB. Do we now have one in place……some think so……but boy howdy I haven’t seen it yet.PnS
Does Cassel conjure up images of Marino/Elway/Manning Brothers/Brady/place your own QB here……PnS
That’s it I’m going, I was going to sell my tickets to this game but that’s pretty badass
Larry, if you wanna sell i will buy
They should have Dawson, Bell, and Lanier give them a pre game pep talk. The Chiefs will be ready to get their first win of the season.
A bunch of local KS National Guard back from Iraq will be in the house! Go Chiefs!
