PRE-GAME – Dolphins vs. Chiefs

From Arrowhead Stadium

11:35 a.m. CST – The teams have finished their pre-game warm-ups and have left the field. Enjoy the game and remember to check in post-game for all the coverage of the Chiefs-Dolphins with stats, analysis, information and comments from the locker rooms.

11:30 a.m. CST – Bad weather was not expected in early afternoon, with the forecast calling for possible thunderstorms in late afternoon. That timetable may have to be moved up, because the wind is howling out of the west-northwest right now and the sky is completely overcast.

11:15 a.m. CST – Very limited chatter between the two teams on the field, certainly the least of any Chiefs game this season. Normally assistant coaches and players will see out familiar faces, but there have only been a few of those types of meetings today.

11:05 a.m. CST – Out early to handle returns for the Chiefs are Dexter McCluster and Steve Breaston taking punts and Terrance Copper and Keary Colbert on kickoffs.

11:03 a.m. CST – Kicking from 55 yards away towards the west goal posts, Ryan Succop was one of two on FGs from 55 yards.

11 a.m. CST – A bank of dark clouds is now passing overe the stadium. It has not yet produced any rain, but the wind has picked up considerably, and now appears to be coming from the west, northwest. Stadium lights have been turned on.

10:55 a.m. CST – Chiefs K Ryan Succop was good from 53 yards kicking to the east goal posts in his pre-game warm-up. The ball had another two or three yards to spare going over the cross bar.

10:50 a.m. CST – Losing Javier Arenas is a big blow for Chiefs today because of his contributions not only on defense, but special teams and offense. Veteran Travis Daniels will likely fill his role as the nickel back, with Dexter McCluster handling some of the returns. Would not be a surprise to see WRs Steve Breaston and/or Terrance Copper handle a few kickoff returns as well.

10:37 a.m. CST – The inactive players for the Dolphins today are CB Vontae Davis, RB Steve Slaton, LB Ikaika Alama-Francis, OT Will Barker, G John Jerry, TE Will Yeatman and DE Philip Merling.

10:35 a.m. CST – The inactive players for the Chiefs today are QB Ricky Stanzi, S Jon McGraw, WR Jerheme Urban, DE Brandon Bair, NT Jerrell Powe, OT Steve Maneri and CB Javier Arenas.

10:30 a.m. CST – The Chiefs are trying to become the fifth team since the NFL-AFL merger in 1970 to start 0-3 and then win the next five games. The other teams were Pittsburgh in 2000, Buffalo in 1998, Los Angeles Raiders in 1986 and New York Giants in 1970. Only Buffalo made the playoffs, finishing 10-6.

10:25 a.m. CST – The Dolphins have announced that starting right cornerback Vontae Davis will not play today and the decision was not based on his hamstring injury. is reporting this morning that Davis and teammate WR Brandon Marshall had a disagreement during the practice week. It reportedly was all verbal and another teammate had to restrain Davis from going after Marshall. The report said Davis has told people that’s why he won’t play today.

10:20 a.m. CST – We are still about 15 minutes away from inactive players being announced but there should not be any surprises for the Chiefs. SS Jon McGraw (shoulder) did not practice all week and will likely be inactive today. Either Donald Washington or Sabby Piscitelli will start in his spot.

10:15 a.m. CST – FB Le’Ron McClain has joined the pre-pre-game throwing late, catching passes in the scoring zone. That may be the option for him this week.

10:10 a.m. CST -  Walt Anderson and his crew will handle the officiating today. This is a group that tends to throw a lot of flags, as they’ve averaged 13 penalties for 108 yards per outing. Home teams are 5-2 with Anderson’s group. One interesting note: the Dolphins are the league’s least penalized team with just 31 flags, but 10 of those came in the third week of the season against Cleveland. The crew that day – Walt Anderson.

10:05 a.m. CST – The normal Chiefs pre-pre-game throwing session is underway with the QBs and receivers. All throwers and catchers accounted for, along with TE Jake O’Connell. No other additions like Monday night, when FB Le’Ron McClain was part of the group catching passes and then made a big catch to help set up the first Chiefs TD.

10:01 a.m. CST – Late roster move by the Dolphins on Saturday had them promoting WR Julius Pruitt from their practice squad. He’s been around the Dolphins for the last three years out of Ouachita Baptist College. Also yesterday, the Dolphins announced that CB Vontae Davis and DE Philip Merling would not play in today’s game, and the reason had nothing to do with injuries. Davis has been rehabbing a hamstring problem, but apparently that was not the reason he was left home. He was the starting right cornerback, and either veteran Will Allen or second-year man Nolan Carroll will be in the opening lineup.

10 a.m. CST – Good morning from a cloudy and cool Arrowhead as the Chiefs and Dolphins get ready for game No. 8 of the 2011 NFL season. There are a lot of players already on the field, especially members of the Dolphins who are out checking out the turf and wind conditions. Right now, it’s pretty breezy and the wind appears to be coming out of the south. Temperatures are very comfortable right now; more on the turf later.

Now is a good time for me to make this particular post. At the start of the season I really had HIGH HOPES for LaRon McClain. I kinda saw him a little bit like Chritian Okoe. Remember the Nigerian Nightmare. McClain is a little bit lighter but not that much. Anyway, I do feel that thru 7 games he has been a dissapointment.

I hope we see a little aerial display today. We have the most talented WR corps in Chiefs history. Cassel needs to step up and take advantage of this explosive group.
