Player Profile: Pat Thomas
He won the starting middle linebacker job in the off-season, which was a bit of a surprise to many who were not aware of Pat Thomas’ talents.
Seven games into the 2008 season and things have not gone well for the Chiefs defense.
That’s why it’s hard to get a smile from Thomas these days. He leads the team in tackles with 45, but he’s not happy with how he and the unit have played.Â
He’s hoping for better things over the second half of the season, starting with this Sunday’s game against Tampa Bay.
A California native, there’s much to know about this 25-year old from Miami, Florida and that education starts right here.

Just like Kawika Mitchell, Pat Thomas is an OLB that Gun forced to MLB and is struggling. And just like Kawika, he might benefit from a move to strong side.
Pat Thomas has been dreadful this year. But then so was Nap Harris last year. One of the dumbest moves, in a long litany of them, that Herm has done since he came here, was getting rid of Kawika Mitchell.
I wonder if scheme is affecting the LBs too. Napolean Harris has been productive in the past and he struggled. Now, Pat Thomas wins the starting job and he struggles. Kawika Mitchell wasn’t resigned because he struggled too much I suppose.
Is there a LB out there who can flourish in this system? The offense overhauled everything last week and tried the spread. Maybe it’s time for the defense to try something new…..but I’ll be damned if I know what.
I am with you. I cannot understand when herm talks about front 7 with the D Line setting up the LBs to clean up the play? Yet his players do not do that. Sorry I am lost, in my day it was see the ball and go get it.
I rip P. Thomas for horrible play, and scream to get him out of there. Honestly, I’m rooting for the guy to make it, and it could well be it’s not all his fault. He’s an underdog, free agent, low draft pick from another team. Always great to see guys like that make it. But, even if it’s not all his fault, his poor, sometimes astonishingly poor-like this is all new to me-tackling is his part to change. Fortunately for him, I think that can be greatly improved.
Mitchell does well with stars surrounding him, hes not a playmaker who can do it on his own, and neither is pat thomas, thomas is really an outside linebacker in the wrong spot…
outside of Dimitri Patterson(thank goodness hes gone) Thomas gets a lot of blame for poor all around defense. However, I have seen flashes, and I think if hes moved as a backup at outside linebacker, all will be well…
I see a Laurenitus in a Chief Uniform next year manning the middle
