Player Profile: Dantrell Savage

He came to the Chiefs back in late April as part of what Herm Edwards likes to call the “Gong Show”, a mini-camp for rookies and unattached players, who were all trying to earn a contract with the Chiefs.

Dantrell Savage was part of that mini-camp, earned a contract and went to training camp. When the smoke cleared on the pre-season, Savage had a spot on the 53-man roster and it’s turned into more than that, as the 5-8 dynamo is now the team’s primary return man and he’s even getting some snaps with the offense now and then.

But just who is this young man that shocked everyone and earned a place in pro football. Click here to find out.

    Mr. Gretz,

I would appeciate it if you could shed some light on the Tony G trade rumours.

I love the way this guy plays. It’s impossible not to have a soft spot for him. He’s a great story, a guy who overcame the overwhelming odds and just wanted to be in the league more than the guys he beat out. I hope he has lots of success this year for us!

Buffalo has a interest in Tony, the chiefs have no interest in a trade.

Hope Savage has lots of success.

Savage needs to learn not to run backwards, as in not toward the wrong goal line.

I never thought we would be in this position but I think all parties might be open to a trade.

Here is what we know (at least this season):
    1. after the Atlanta game Tony said he ‘called his agent.’

    2. Tony was ‘dissapointed’ that he couldnt get his record in the Denver game and said he thought the old coaching staff (al saunders) would have.
    http://www.bobgretz.com/chiefs-football/gonzalez-still-upset-by-lack-of-record.html

    3. Herm met with Tony and said that he heard tony’s point of view and Tony heard his point of view….and both made statements to the press AFTER the discussion basically having the same diffrences as before the discussion

    4. Gretz rights an article saying “The only thing missing from the Tuesday press conference was the blood trickling out the corner of Edwards’ mouth as he bit his tongue. Gonzalez’s reaction is not what the head coach wanted to see from one of his veteran players.” http://www.bobgretz.com/chiefs-football/herm-speaks-vol-4.html

    5. Tony gets the record in Carolina in what he describes as ‘the worst loss in his NFL career.’

So to some it all up, Herm didnt like what he heard out of Tony, and Tony is not happy with the coaching staff (he has been complaining about the predictable playcalling etc since 2006), and Tony is not thriled about rebuilding and losing so badly when he only has a few years left.

Thus, IMO its not out of the realm of reality to think Tony might want to go to a winning franchise now that he has broken all major chiefs records that he could, and it is not out of the realm of reality to think the front office might be willing to trade an older vet like him for draft picks.

Herm and Carl are already the most unpopular people in KC since Elliott and Bono. Trading Tony would be huge disaster PR wise. I hope they aren’t that stupid.
