Peyton-Colts Marriage Ends Today

It’s only in the world of sports where people think of holding a press conference to talk about a divorce.

But then few sporting marriages have been as visible and seemingly successful as QB Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts. So, the disintegration of this union is going to be big news.

It will come down at 11 a.m. CST in Indianapolis when owner Jimmy Irsay and Manning will appear before the television camerass. By the end of the NFL business day on Wednesday, Manning will be released and immediately become an unrestricted free agent, quite possibly the NFL’s biggest UFA in history.

The press conference figures to become emotional at some point, especially with Colts owner Jimmy Irsay in front of the cameras. Manning and the Colts have been together since 1998 and in many ways Manning established the football team at the top of the sporting pyramid in the Hoosier State. If they had a Mt. Rushmore for sports in Indiana, Peyton Manning would be front and center in that setting.

There will be a lot of words thrown about in the next 48 hours on Peyton Manning, his past, his present and more importantly his future. We’ll be at it all day so check back often.

It is a business but still to bad that players who gave everything leave with a bitter taste in their mouth. Wish our “ideal” of football was equal to the real world of it.

Watching the interview was somewhat painful. Chiefs have not always acted much better. Some departures I’m not proud of Like Waters and Allen. Thankfully the leaving of Tony G. was much better. Mushy side over. $28 million is a lot so can’t really blame owner. Peyton, cheer up. They could only win two games without you. Go find a real team.
