Morning Practice Update 8/5

From River Falls, Wisconsin

Herm Edwards took his foot off the gas pedal again today here in the northwoods, shortening up the morning practice and keep his team out of full pads.  That was in reaction to Monday’s two intense sessions, as the coach tried to lower the hitting quotient, especially with a game coming in just two days.

There were no new additions to the injury report: WR-KR Kevin Robinson (knee), RB Kolby Smith (groin), LT Branden Albert (foot), DT Glenn Dorsey (knee), DE Trevor Johnson (head) and LB Donnie Edwards (hamstring.) Also sitting out the session was TE Tony Gonzalez.

The Chiefs had just 24 plays of team work and the offense had positive plays on 11 of those snaps. QB Brodie Croyle found TE Brad Cottam for a nice gain down the middle. QB Tyler Thigpen had a bootleg that turned  a run for 10-plus yards.  Both Croyle and Thigpen found WR Maurice Price for nice gains  The offense again used the direct snap to a running back as Jamaal Charles took the snap.  Damon Huard was the quarterback on the play and he lined up at wide receiver.

Defensively, DT T.J. Jackson shutdown a short screen for RB Dantrell Savage. S Jon McGraw broke up a deep throw by Thigpen for WR Segiori Joachim.  LB E.J. Kuale knocked down a pass by Thipgen in coverage.

I can’t tell you how excited I am to hear about the Chiefs O using the bootleg. Not to mention them switching it up a bit and direct snapping the ball to the RB. At least maybe the calls from the sideline won’t be so blatantly obvious this year. Go Chiefs!!

Bob, how would you rate the Wide Receivers in order from best to worst. It sounds like the number 4 and 5 spots are up for grabs between Webb, Sippio, and Price.

I read in your crash and burn article on the Chiefs web site that things are not as bad as some media says, OK. But it is uniformly reported that this season is being used to prepare for 2009 and nothing much is expected from this edition of the Chiefs. So how can we evaluate is things are progressing positively. If we cannot use win and loses, it seems to me, we have no idea what is happening with the Chiefs.

Dawes is pretty good most times. Especially when he ignoring the local media. He has a insider view of the Chiefs. He only sucks when attacking fairly accurate view of Chiefs shortcoming pointed out by print and radio commentators
