Continuing...

What would've happened had history been altered, if one could go back & change it? Better? Worse? A wash? Changing but one thing would necessarily change another, and beget more still. But it is fun to imagine.

Great players drafted by the Texans/Chiefs or at one time on the roster otherwise that alas ended up elsewhere. . . imagine these guys added on to the great players already on board in the 1960's (some eventually did made it back to the Chiefs.)

Among then Don Meredith, Bob Lilly, Clem Daniels, Roger Staubach, Tom Keating, Gale Sayers, Warren Wells, Wendell Tucker, Billy Masters & many more.

* Had Meredith been a Chief, likely Dawson would not have been signed.

* Had Sayers been a Chief, Mike Garrett likely would not have been drafted.

* Lilly AND Buchanan at DT? 2 Hall of Famers - no waiting.

* Otis Taylor AND Warren Wells at WR? Visions of Len 'The Mad Bomber' Dawson dancing inside heads, with the likes Mssrs. Chris Burford, Frank Pitts, Gloster Richardson & Noland 'Supergnat' Smith too in stead.

If only...

More interesting factoids -

QB Jack Kemp almost became a Dallas Texan back in 1962 (covered on www.KC Chiefs.com so I won't add to it), but what alot of folks don't know is that his backup in BUF, a then soon to be 'Mad Bomber' Daryle Lamonica - almost became a Chief too.

While Kemp's best days were behind him by 1967, arm & elbow problems etc., not so with Lamonica.

Lamonica went to OAK in a 1967 trade (the worst in BUFF history according to most knowledgeable folks)& led the Raiders to the Superbowl in his very first season. Alas, for all of Lamonica's talent and the Raiders same, a Championship was not to be there for the twine.

By 1974 whence the Chiefs were on football life support & Lamonica had been relegated to backup duty behind Ken Stabler, the Chiefs Hank Stram inquired as to Bomber's availability (Lenny was hurt, Mike Livingston was ineffective, & rookie David Jaynes wasn't ready- nor in hindsight was the former KU flash e'er to be.)

That the trade never happened was probably best: Lamonica never did like KC, his distaste perhaps exceeded by only Jim Otto and the genius himself, Al Davis. Too, by the next year ('75) Daryle had left the NFL for the short-lived WFL.

That the Chiefs also could have had either/or QBs Don Meredith & Roger Staubach, well... that's for another blog.

Bob, I spent the last three years designing that type of steel building. If the winds exceed the ratings with enough force, even they can fail. Jack Kemp played before my time but I have read that he really gave the Chiefs teams fits over the years. I do know he was was well liked here in western NY, as much as a politician can be. Even though I was only a county legislator, I understand the thick hide you need as a politician at times. Finally it's too bad Mark Boerigter's career was cut short by the knee injury. He started off real well and looked to be improving. Happy birthday Mark!
