How The Chiefs Can Beat The Raiders

From Millbrae, California

Today’s question: when was the last time the Chiefs won on the road?

Answer: Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. On October 21, 2007, the Chiefs beat the Raiders 12-10.

Since then, the Chiefs are a miserable 1-19, winning only at home against Denver earlier this season.

As they have just about every week this season, the Chiefs come into their game on Sunday against the Raiders as an underdog, even though the silver and black is just 3-8 on the year. One of those victories came at Arrowhead Stadium back in September. That 23-8 defeat was the first indicator that the ’08 season was not going to be a good one for the red and gold.

With seven consecutive defeats, the Chiefs need a victory in a bad way. There’s no question they can win this game by doing all the necessary things and a few extra.

I guess I get first crack at it. Stop the run, the chiefs have stopped the run one game all year but I guess they could magically do it with no history of having done so yet.

Since Tyler does not line up under center there is a good possiblity the chiefs will try to throw a bit.

Special team success. Next to the defensive line lousy play, the special team play has been pitiful.

I thought last weeks game might have been one of the few chances for a win and now I am down to the last game of year for the second win of the season, not much chance against Oakland. I hope I am wrong.

Good stuff Bob. I agree stop the Raiders run. If we can force Jamarcus Russell to try to beat us I like our chances on defense. Offensive we must run the football. Larry has burned this defense the last few years and if we can be more balance offensively that can open things up for Tyler to throw the ball down the field. Special teams just make a tackle.

The problem with stopping the run would be having to put eight men in the box. Up till now all QB’s playing against us have ended up having pretty impressive days due to the fact that we can get no pressure with the DL. I would like to see the running game opened up to try to get LJ to win the game for us insead of relying on TT. With this Raider’s secondary, I’m sure they will be all over our recievers like a blanket, we need to get the running game going. I believe we still have a game coming up against the Bengals, so there is always the possibality of a win there. I hope they can pull this one off, GO CHIEFS!

Stop the run? LOL!! They did even WORSE when they put 8 in the box.

    (highlights)

The Chiefs run a 4-3 but they’re a bad 4-3. As a result, they had 8 in the box on 15 of 31 (48.4%) run plays. To give you an idea of how bad their defense is, the Bills gained 77 yards and 1 TD on the 15 plays in which the Chiefs had 8 in the box. That’s an eye popping 5.1 ypa””with 8 in the box! By way of comparison, the Bills picked up 59 yards on the other 16 run plays””a more reasonable 3.7 ypa. Basically, when the Chiefs stacked the box they tended to give up more big plays (25, 17, 14) because there was no one left to limit the gain.

Lets see 2 out of the 3 keys to the game goes to the Raiders . With only the passing game going to the chiefs . Doing the math means a Raiders win . I still believe our interior D-Line leaves a lot to like . Only time well prove me wrong, I hope it well. D-Line & backers should be high on the list in 09 draft to me .

    - yes…HOW they can (and have over the series history: KC with a 52-45-2 advantage including both regular and post season series run.

    A few Rin favorites:

1967 KC 48 OAK 0; KR Noland ‘Supergnat’ Smith is unstoppable with over 200 yards in returns; save for penalties in the game he would have had over 300 & three (3) kick return TDs – as it was 1 TD & another 72 yarder that stood proved sufficient.

1968 KC 24 OAK 10 Chiefs maul the defending AFL Champion Raiders & their reknowned 11 Angry Men defense, rushing for almost 300 yards. KC OG Ed Budde has such a magnificent game he is awarded AFL ‘Player of the Week’ honors – for offensive lineman any tanatmount to going Gale Sayers and scoring 6 TDs in a game.

1969 KC 17 OAK 7 AFL’s last title game. This was the ‘real’ Superbowl that season…the 23-7 win over MINN proved almost anti-climactic according to some Chiefs players. The best part? A tossup. Watching the Raiders take their pre-packed bags back home after the loss, or hearing OAK’s great but terminally whiney C Jim Otto respond to the AFL take another Superbowl from the NFL “I’m not happy about KC winning.”

Eat it Jim…just, eat it. Otto ended his career NEVER having been on a Superbowl winning team… tough break…couldn’t happened to a ‘nicer’ guy. At least his numerous artifical joints be intact so for to keep him company.

Great player, less so panache…unlike Rin.
