Haley Heads Home

On Monday, former Chiefs head coach Todd Haley accepted the offensive coordinator’s job with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

For Haley, it’s a chance to return to his hometown and the team that was so much a part of his life growing up, where he served as a game-day ball boy, and worked the club’s training camp as a teenager. The oldest child of former Steelers player personnel director Dick Haley, he grew up in the Pittsburgh suburb of Upper St. Clair.

Almost two months ago, Haley was fired by Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt and GM Scott Pioli after the team lost to the New York Jets and had a 5-8 record on the season.

Since then, Haley has talked with Arizona and the New York Jets about jobs with those teams. He also spoke with several other coaches and teams about possible positions.

With the Steelers, he replaces Bruce Arians, who had been the team’s offensive coordinator since 2007. Arians was fired and has now moved onto be the offensive coordinator with the Indianapolis Colts.

So happy for him. He deserves tons of credit for the Chiefs improvement over the last 3 years, and it was just bordering on libelous how he was treated on the way out, and may still be if his salary is being withheld. I guess he’s not so much of an uncontrollable, loose cannon, loudmouth, and all the other nonsensical things he had to deal with, if the best organization in the sport, with a fantastic young coach, is willing to trust him with his offense. If he can’t be a HC, this is likely his dream job, and a couple of years of success in that role should get him another HC gig if he wants it. I hope he chooses carefully though, and only works with stable people who will let him do, and support him in his job, and won’t let non football garbage get in the way. Looking forward to kicking his ass when we play them in the regular season and hopefully the playoffs. Other than those games, go Todd! And thanks!

I think its great hire for Steelers. Only two things I wished Haley would’ve done in his time here. One he should’ve just called plays last season I’m certainly sure offense would’ve been alot better if that had happen. Second would’ve been not made Palko backup at very least he should’ve promoted Stanzi. I mean Stanzi outplayed the guy in preseason. But hey it worked out well for everyone he’ll do good in Pittsburg if they improve their oline and get a more talented back to pair with Mendenhall.

The best news I’ve heard in a long, long time. Good luck, Coach Haley. You deserved better and you earned it.

I think they really brought in Haley to work on Big Ben’s golf game. I’ll wager he lasts less than two years in Pittsboig.

Since Martyred Saint Todd now has his dream job back home, maybe we can now lay down the violins and wipe away our tears on this site.

Congrats to him. He deserves it. Now he has another real QB to work with. We play them in Pittsburgh this year, I think. If we’re not ready, no doubt in my mind Tomlinson will let Todd break it off in us if they get the chance.

    …sorry, Tomlin

edj- I now pronounce you and stanzi man and wife.

I can’t wait to see Big Ben pop Todd in the mouth during a game.

I guess you gotta have “chief” in your screen name to be a Haley hater. (note to douches cychief and txchief – give it a rest. You seem to be the ones carrying the torch and bringing him up at every instance)

I am glad for him and hope he gets his redemption. And when they come to arrowhead and pound us we can all sing the praises of Pioli and Hunt…
