Dorsey Named NFL Executive of the Year

On Thursday, first-year Chiefs general manager John Dorsey was named the NFL’s Executive of the Year for 2013 by the Pro Football Writers Association.

The PFWA award is noted as the league’s top prize for front office types in pro football. In his first season after coming over from the Green Bay Packers, Dorsey put together a roster that led the Chiefs from a 2-14 record to 11-5 and a spot in the AFC playoffs. Dorsey was hired a year ago after spending 28 of the previous 29 years as an employee of the Packers. He began first as a linebacker, spending 6 seasons on the field with the Pack (1984-89).

Dorsey was hired as a scout in 1991, was promoted to director of college scouting in 1997, spent the 1999 season in Seattle as director of pro personnel, returned to Green Bay in 2000 as the director of college scouting until 2012 when he was named director of football operations.

The NFL Executive of the Year Award was started in 1993 and the only previous Chiefs executive to be honored was Scott Pioli after the 2010 season.

This year’s 11-5 mark is the best record in the first year of any general manager in the history of the Hunt Family franchise.

Here’s how the other 5 Chiefs general managers began their tenures:

Congratulations on a well deserved honor. I think Dorsey coupled with Reid gives us the right pair heading in the right direction. I’m not sure what others think but I feel more confident and hopeful heading into the off season than i have in years.

Kudos galore to Dorsey on his first year at the Chief’s GM helm! On a side note, I continue to be puzzled over some select media comments on how Pioli is a master at personnel given all the success he had at NE, etc.
If Pioli was that damned good, and we all know he was not, then why hasn’t he landed another NFL job over the past season? Why? We all know why. He’s a horrid person and an empty suit.

    Other than that….

Nobody will read this because I’m so late. Schaaf had to be the worst GM in the history of sports. ’76-’88 with 2 winning seasons and one playoff appearance.
