Chiefs Update 9/18

From The Truman Sports Complex

The Chiefs worked for just under two hours in the September sunshine on Thursday afternoon, getting ready for their trip south to face the Falcons in Atlanta on Sunday.

DE Turk McBride was added to the injury report as he was a limited participant in Thursday’s work.  McBride left Sunday’s game against Oakland in the first half when he made a tackle and fell on the heel of RB Justin Fargas’ shoe.  McBride said Thursday that his spleen was affected by the blow and possibly bruised.  He hopes to play on Sunday.

QB Brodie Croyle and CB Patrick Surtain did not take part in practice because of their shoulder injuries and both will not play on Sunday.

Starting QB Tyler Thigpen did his first NFL press conference and talked about what the Chiefs may be up to this week with him as the starter.

“I think we’re going back to more base stuff,” Thigpen said. “Stuff that as a team, you know, I guess you could say are our bread and butter. Those are the things we’re going to stick to, you know, be good at the things we’re good at, keep it simple and execute.”

Thigpen said he and TE Tony Gonzalez spent time after practice on both Wednesday and Thursday working on their time.

“I feel like he and I have definitely gotten on the same page,” said Thigpen. “That’s one thing we wanted to work on, we talked about it in the shower after the game. We worked on that this week and we’ve gotten a lot better at it.”

‘back to our bread and butter’

would that be running LJ up Adrian Jones butt, and lots of 3 and outs?

I think we should start our own game. Lets have a shot of liquor each time colquitt punts. Just like the chiefs, we’ll likely be out by halftime.

So, they’re striving to be even more predictable on offense? That can’t be good…

Wow! I know its hard to be positive these days but we all knew what could happen with this young of a team. 0-5 (Lets not say 0-16 yet) is not out of the question with the way Denver is playing and Carolina is good in the trenches so Atlanta may be our best bet at a win and Thigpen is having his 1st start. But what are you going to do? Brodie is hurt yet again (don’t get me wrong I like Brodie) and was prone to get hurt in college also that was the risk with drafting him and we all know Damon is not a starting QB and 35yrs old so why not see if this kid can do something? The thing that puzzles me is ALL these young guys except B.Richards and H.Taylor are getting a chance. I’m all for letting the young guys play and seeing what they got but McIntosh? Does anyone out there see anything in this guy? He has been in the league 9yrs. All the other guys with more than 3yrs that start, you can see why by there production yet this guy is starting and getting beat on a regular basis but we are keeping him in for cohesion. Also lets not fire Herm yet I for one am giving him a pass this far. I would however like to see some inprovement by Nov. and have at least a competitive team by the end of the season maybe in need of a QB. Which if you have been a Chiefs fan for long we have been in need of a QB since Dawson. Not to say we have had a few that had a couple of nice seasons over the past 18yrs. Green and Gannon (No I never liked Elvis wow was he a mistake) Had a couple oldies, Montana, Kreig, Moon, DeBerg. So what I’m saying guys is I understand the frustration but some of these kids have alot of potential too. And not sure if even Cowher were coach shoot not even sure some of the greatest coaches in History could win with these kids but lets give them a chance and Herm too. I’m not a Chiefs Corp. sheep either if I were the owner Peterson would not be the GM.

LOL findthedr, But I’d rather punt than turn the ball over, like Herm says “punting is not a bad thing”
I think Thigpen is going to surprise some people.
    In a positive way.

It’ll be a suprise if he is walking off the field at the end of the game.

  • September 18, 2008  - Chris says:

Hey JohnNdallas I live in Arlington nice to see some other Chiefs fans down here. And I agree about Thigpen he is big and can move also has an arm just needs to get it under control and make better decisions. Guess we will find out soon enough.

Oh! Yes! I’m in Addison, and am a huge Chiefs fan!
I was born in KC and raised about 100 mi. south of KC.

I’m hoping the kid can show a little spark this sunday and we can come away with a win.

Hey Chris…… I’m glad to know that there are still some people liveing in Arlington, After Jerry Jones and the city council pulled that eminenent domain crap.LOL

Punting isn’t a good thing either. Especially when you punt seven or eight times a game!

  • September 18, 2008  - findthedr says:

what I would like to see is either Jamaal Charles or Will Franklin returning kickoffs. They both have 4.38 40yrd dash speed.

Charles aldready showed he was able to handle kickoffs in training camp/preseason, and Franklin (being a WR) should have even less trouble catching the ball. It is an oppurtunity to get them more involved in the game and puts the ball in the hands of our fastest players.

It would be nice if we could eventually have one of them handle punt returns too (but I can understand why Herm would rather have a vet do that since their is a greater probability of making a turnover).

Savage is 5′8” and runs a 4.52….I think we can stow him away on the practice squad.

interesting rumor I would like to see if Mr. Gretz could address:

“On game day when the team doctors asked Huard if he could go back in he said no. Thats why he didn’t go back in.

After the game he threw the Chiefs under the bus by not admitting he told the doctors this and implying that he could have went back in.

I hear he’s in the Chiefs doghouse.”

  • September 18, 2008  - findthedr says:

at the same time their has been some discrepancy as to which play and what type of injury Huard had (I’ve heard everything from stiff neck to concussion).

Is this Herm telling Huard he is injured or the other way around?

  • September 18, 2008  - Lundberg says:

Note to Tyler avoid making comments such as, “we talked about it in the shower after the game.” They make you sound a little light in the loafers.

  • September 18, 2008  - Nick says:

I was thinking the same thing Lundberg.

  • September 18, 2008  - JohnNdallas says:

See how y;all are, I wasn’t going to go there….
    But I knew someone would.

  • September 18, 2008  - JohnNdallas says:

Hey Bob, maybe next time we could leave out where the conversation took place. LOL

And everyone else give the kid a break! He’s facing a potential firing squad, so he’s a little nervous LOL.

    I am too!
