Chiefs Update 12/5

From the Truman Sports Complex

The Chiefs have declared WR Mark Bradley out of Sunday’s game in Denver against Broncos.

Speaking after Friday moring’s 90-minute practice, Herm Edwards said the team is hoping the rest will give Bradley’s  injured calf an opportunity to heal.  He’s been dealing with the injury for about two weeks now and has limited his practice and playing time.

Also declared out of the trip to Denver were LB Donnie Edwards (knee) and CB Pat Surtian (quad).

Listed as questionable are LB Pat Thomas (hamstring) and G Adrian Jones (ankle).  It’s unlikely either one will play against the Broncos.

The Chiefs list C Rudy Niswanger (knee), G Wade Smith (ankle) and DE Tamba Hali (ankle) as probable.  All three were full participants in Friday’s practice.

From Denver, LB D.J. Williams is listed as doubtful with a knee injury.  Listed as questionable are CB Champ Bailey (groin), DE Ebenezer Ekuban (back), LB Spencer Larson (hip) and S Marlon McCree (ankle).  All were limited in their praticipation in Friday’s Broncos practice.

The Broncos do not expect either Williams or Bailey to play.  Williams sprained his the MCL in his left knee on Nov. 6.  Bailey suffered a partial tear of his left groin in a game Oct. 20 against New England. Both were expected to be ready for this game, but now it appears that they will not play.

Returning this week is LB Nate Webster.  He sprained the MCL in his left knee on Nov. 6 and has not played since.

Time for Will Franklin to step up…Jeff Webb to find his game – and Dwayne? He needs to ‘Bow(e)’ not be buttafangers this Sunday…oh – and watch that bootleg…watch that draw play – watch that WR screen- “he**, watch everything” – as a coach on NFL Films pleaded long ago.

    heh heh heh

That is bad news about Bradley. We could do without him to squeak out a victory against the Raiders (who got pounded by the CHargers), but it will be far more difficult against Denver.

Here is to hoping Franklin, Cottam, or DVD step up. We can only hope.

Nice to know that Denver is still every bit as ravaged by injuries as we are. With their depleted LB corps, perhaps Gonzalez will have another monster game. Also, it couldn’t hurt Cottam’s chances of having the type of game he had against the Jets. (4 catches)

I’d say between those two and Charles and Bowe, there won’t be many extra receptions to be had. Plus, Thigpen loves to scramble and when you’re playing a team with scrub LBs the odds of him picking up lots of yards with his feet would seem good.

Perhaps this is being overly cautious, but why not designate Bradley as the third QB? He’d more than likely stay off the field and rest his calf anyway, but in the event both Thigpen and Gray get injured, (you never can tell this season) Bradley is the only other player on the roster with experience as a QB. Remember, Ingle Martin is on the practice squad, not the 53.

That’s right, findthedr, it certainly would be a good time for a guy like Will Franklin to make a significant contribution.

Hopefully this isn’t a sign of the future for Mark Bradley. One of the bugaboos on him during his time in Chicago was his trouble staying healthy. Here’s hoping his missing games will be a rarity here in Kansas City.
