Chiefs Shutout On 2014 Compensatory Draft Picks

The NFL announced the 32 compensatory selections in the 2014 NFL Draft and the Chiefs were shutout.

There were 13 teams that landed the choices, led by Baltimore and the New York Jets with four picks each. Pittsburgh, Green Bay, Baltimore and San Francisco earned third-round selections.

The formula used by the NFL for doling out the extra slots is based on the base salary, playing time and honors for unrestricted free agents that were signed by new teams for the 2013 season.

Next year at this time, the Chiefs should have the full complement of four compensatory picks due to losing more than a half-dozen free agents, while not signing any UFAs to big money contracts.

Last year, more players were added to the Chiefs roster through free agency than they lost.

Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Pittsburgh and St. Louis were each given three selections. Cincinnati, Detroit and Green Bay have two picks and New England, the New York Giants and San Francisco picked up one each.
