Chiefs add another free agent on defense.

The Chiefs have added another street free agent to their early 2013 roster, signing DT Marcus Dixon

The 28-year old Dixon appeared in the first three games of the 2012 season with the New York Jets, contributing 2 tackles in 96 plays on defense (56) and special teams (40). He was released on September 24th and was not signed by the Jets or any other team over the season’s final 14 weeks.

Dixon, 6-4, 295 pounds, was signed by Dallas as an undrafted free agent in 2008 out of Hampton University. The Georgia native spent two seasons with the Cowboys, most of those on the practice squad and he did not appear in a regular-season game. Dallas released him on the final cut of the 2010 pre-season. He was claimed on waivers the next day by the Jets.

In three seasons in New Jersey, Dixon appeared in 22 games with 4 starts. He produced 21 total tackles, 2.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a recovered fumble.

At Hampton he played in 45 games with 38 starts, totaling 154 total tackles, 37.5 tackles for loss and 15.5 sacks.

Lots of nice bodies being added but no one of real noticeable impact.

Dorsey and Reid seem to be really trying to address the lack of quality depth on the team. Hopefully these player acquisitions will amount to more than just churning the bottom of the roster.

Most free agents added before the start of the regular free agent period, useally are just players to help fill the roster before training camp. Few make the team. but once in a while two or three will stick. I can’t recall many that have stuck with the Chiefs in recent years. More of the college free agents that are signed after the draft may stick.

To those of you that have a sense of humor. What is Bobby Sippio’s phone number????

Niblick, Palko was the first guy signed the year when he joined the Chiefs.

el cid-I had totally forgotten about him. Perhaps it was a freudian slip. He was terrible.

Most pick ups between now and the draft are training camp fodder. Bodies have to be there. They know that but…there is always a chance.

Hey, I so hoped for Bobby Sippio. That was a good story that could have been a great one. You go Alex Tanney!
