As I look thru this list and think back over the last 3 days of free agency I just can’t help but think that we must have quite a few Over Paid Players. We lose 5 pretty good players and sign 2 no namers and have done nothing of real note in free agency. This tells me that the cap is really tight for us and we just can’t do anything. It also tells me we must have quite a few guys that are very Over Paid when comparing to their stats and production.

Now we’re into the 2d wave of FA with most names only the hard-HARD core NFL fans would recognize. There’s still a few marquee guys out there but the glow is starting to dim and as it does, I look for the Chiefs to use their considerable database of knowledge to pluck a few nuggets from the scrapheap.

I predict a ceiling of about 1.5 mil per guy with most signing for around .5 mil. As someone said recently, Tiffany’s is closed but Target is now open.

Berry has a huge cap number becaus he was signed in the last year of the old CBA. If we resign him his next contract will be far more reasonable. He has a huge cap number this year. R W is right on track on the second wave of free agency. I read where Emanuel Sanders from the Steelers is in for a visit. He would be a great pick-up and could fill that other receiver we need. I’m sure there are other teams interested, so it will be interesting if we can sign him.

Just saw this nugget on PFR, so don’t know if it’s breaking news or FYI. Whatever:

After visiting with him yesterday, Chiefs are set to sign defensive tackle Vance Walker to a contract, a source tells Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Post-Gazette (Twitter link). The Packers had been trying to set up a visit for Walker, but he’ll be headed to Kansas City for 2014 instead.

Walker, 26, started 15 games for the Raiders last season, recording 40 tackles and three sacks for the club. Oakland reportedly extended a contract offer to Walker before the free agent period opened, but the Georgia Tech product was interested in the rare opportunity to test the market as an unrestricted free agent.

Update on that last posting, re: Walker to Chiefs:

9:16am: Agent Chad Speck has directly responded to Dougherty’s initial report, via Twitter, calling it “completely false” and adding that Walker has a visit lined up with the Seahawks on Sunday.

…and so, the spinning wheel spins. UGH.

agree with Chuck. see: Bowe, Dwayne

I’m expecting much bigger contributions from Bowe if the Alex Smith we saw at the end of the season is the one we get to start 2014. If that doesn’t happen and the trend continues, his contract is going to inflict major pain these next few years.

I’m curious what % of our 2014 cap consumed by players who are already gone. EG, are there lingering effects from past misses on FA’s like Routt. Would appreciate any insight here, Bob.
